I read some account of a rogue elephant terrorizing a remote village in I think India one time and it legitimately read like a horror novel. They described the thundering steps approaching from the dark jungle and everyone hiding together under furniture in the village priest’s house praying like it was some kind of demonic entity. The elephant ripped the straw roof off the house and was reaching around blindly in the darkness with its trunk trying to find their hiding places to drag them out and gore them.

I remember a story that some elephants in africa were actually capable of differentiating between languages.
They acted friendly when they heard european languages because it was commonly tourists that sometime gave them food, while being hostile to african languages because it was usually poachers.
