There's an old native brazilian legend revolving around the idea that under the full moon river dolphins could turn into incredibly handsome human males bent on showing up in the middle of the night and seducing or raping any female members of the tribe out of nowhere, leaving them pregnant with a soulless half dolphin baby. This was said so young girls wouldnt go around wandering by themselves late at night in the middle of the amazon rain forest

In later versions of the story after contact between the portuguese and the natives was more firmly estabilished and towns were already built in the North the dolphin was a handsome man who would show up at parties while well dressed and charismatic only to, again, drop back in the river without a trace after impregnating someone and hes commonly depicted wearing a hat to hide the blowhole visible in his head.
