Maybe they are imported beans, you see this thing with beer, a bud light beer in Europe is more expensive than a Carlsberg, because they aren't mass produced in Europe, so it probably is imported - which raise the price.

If beans in tomato sauce isn't a common food item in the US, isn't mass produced in the US, but has to be imported from outside, that would explain the weirdly high price.

Costco sold these for cheap so I finally bought one. I watch a lot of British stuff, so the British Heinz Beanz always intrigued me.

Tried it, and it's just really soft beans in a very basic tomato soup. Didn't taste bad, but it was underwhelming. Would never put on toast.
