did you acquire some new skills during this whole year?
some certifications?
did you create a website?
did you update your github?
if the answer is no then do you really think you deserve a job?

>>62350293(OP) it's pretty cool how unemployment barely pays anything and it runs out after 6 months. i think you really need to have a "living in an RV" backup plan ready to go at a moment's notice. living in the jewnited states of muttmerica economic opportunity zone as a labor force participant is truly hell on earth.

Old people need to shut the fuck up already and leave the fucking internet. Can't have SHIT without some 60+ retiree trying to lectureus about shit it doesn't understand.

>>62350502 That's freelancer, not salaryman. If he got positive revenue from the website, and if the project was capable of jumping through all the ridiculous governance hoops, that's entrepreneur level. Lesson: If your industry demands entrepreneurial skills and not giving HR roasties the ick, leave immediately. You might be offended because of the "job market", but there is no other option.

I’m always worried about being laid off. I work as a middle manager in a huge corporation. don’t make a lot of money but I work from home, so it’s a fair trade off. many of my direct reports, who were part-time workers, were laid off 6 months ago and replaced with contractors in Latin America. I still have a decent number of domestic workers reporting to me but I know we’re all on borrowed time. I’m 42 and just hoping to stay on a few more years at which point I’ll have enough saved to survive for a long time. I’ve been thinking of going back to school even at my age if I could get law school paid for. but if I can’t, I’ll probably just subsist on my savings and investments.

>>62350313 >Now don't fall for the next shilled bullshit. It would be shilled bullshit if it didn't work for over a decade. Tons of non CS background engineering grads went into software too because of how on fire that industry was in those times. Hell, I'm pretty sure way more of my EE classmates ended up as SWEs than as hardware engineers. Not only did it pay more, it was way way easier to get software jobs. Even people that really wanted to do hardware would end up in software in those days because that's just where the hiring was happening.
