>>154118608(OP) Only some JLA teams are interesting. JSA is more consistently interesting but not as much as the better JLA teams.

>>154118608(OP) I can't choose, feels like it's two different (nice) vibes >>154120703 alternatively it means she had the hots for her actual cousin from her Earth...
>>154121703 Is a thing among hardcore fans, being the first superhero team and sheit, like the doom patrol, I always expected it to be an unexpected hit
>>154118608(OP) JSA is, or was anyway, consistently better. JLA as a team and book was middling more often than not.

>>154121703 Yes, they were popular enough to get a mini in the '80s, an event dedicated to bringing them back, another mini in 1991 and an ongoing in 1992. The 1992 ongoing was well received but was quickly cancelled simply because Mike Carlin didn't like them and thought having a book about older heroes made DC seem old (same logic used to fuck with them in the 2010s). He had most of them killed off or sent into retirement in Zero Hour right after their book was cancelled too.
Ironically it was Zero Hour that birthed Starman which used a lot of Golden Age characters and lead to the 1999 JSA book. So Carlin's attempts to fuck the JSA over eventually had the opposite effect.

>>154118608(OP) Lemire’s JSA and JSA 2022 are mid at best and yet they’re both still better than every JL run since McDuffie’s except for maaaybe later parts of new 52 JL.
Justice League is the biggest shitty team in comics whose reputation is held together by just being DC’s flagship solo characters together in one book. They have less than 10 great or even good runs despite their allegedly prestige due to not being able to have character development anymore and being just world/universe/multiverse ending threats and events.
>>154118608(OP) JSA. I prefer more character driven books to spectacle books.
JLA books are hindered by Bats/Supes/WW/Flash/GL taking up most of the roster outside of the 80s to mid 90s. It's basically doomed to not having much or any character introspection and development due to the aforementioned characters having their own solos, and DC treats their C listers like crap due to not being Batman so they won't get development/introspection there either.
Also JSA simply has a better track record. They're okay to great from the All Star Comics relaunch in 1976 all the way to Johns' departure in 2009, and Earth 2 was a terrible idea with okay execution while Robinson was on it before it went down the toilet when that editor pissed him off and ended up filling the book with Batman and Superman characters. Meanwhile silver age JLA is some of the worst silver age DC stuff and Bronze Age JLA is technically readable with the first half of it basically being an extension of the silver age JLA. Detroit was terrible. JLI is of course one of the best JL runs. Then in the 90s they had some shitty shit like JL Europe, Extreme Justice, and post Zero Hour. Then of course Morrison's is good though mostly spectacle, and the rest of that volume was pretty decent even if it did have some terrible effects (eg Tower of Babel's influence). Meltzer and McDuffie were fine even if Identity Crisis' ugly head reared over it, and JL and most of its spinoffs (United, Dark, etc) has been outright shit ever since McDuffie left. And Johns' third JSA run and Lemire's run are mediocre at best but it's still somehow better than whatever the fuck Snyder's run and Unlimited are.
>>154125052 Not only was the 1992 ongoing well received, it actually gained sales with each issue.
And in the same vein Infinity Inc wasn't cancelled due to low sales, it was actually a consistent mid tier seller despite getting past 50 issues, but DC wanted a Helix spinoff and then never did the Helix spinoff.

This is now a JSA thread
A few weeks ago there were people saying the new Kid Eternity should be asian due to JSA only have Judomaster >>153622772 and they got their wish. In the latest JSA issue she and her grandma were shown wearing kimonos so she may have been dead for a long time I'm gonna laugh if Lemire has her having died in Hiroshima's bombing or something

>>154126677 The thing about it is hating the JSA because they're old is hating what makes them appealing. The JSA existing and being prominent connects the modern DCU to its origins in a visible and tangible way and helps give DC its own identity. Marvel's innovation in the Silver Age was making its characters have more human foibles in the here and now but it's connection to its pre-Fantastic Four era has always been more tenuous even with things like Invaders (a Bronze Age creation).
DC's sense of legacy and that thread connecting the JSA heroes of the past to the JLA heroes of the present and the Teen Titans heroes of the immediate future and the Legion of the far future is what was cool about DC. Marvel was the modern soap opera while DC was an ages spanning historical epic and shitting on, downplaying or eliminating the JSA is like ripping the soul out of the entire company. You're directly damaging the building's foundation.

>>154126967 Samefagging but this is also, for me anyway, why when Marvel digs into its past it's better off not reaching into the Timely era (save for Cap, Namor and Torch) but rather the Atlas era. The early Cold War thing of spies, ray guns, pulpy adventure and all that. When the Atlas era chacters and concepts are brought back, it's like you're being clued in to some secrets that were being covered up by G-Men. That you're being exposed to hidden mysteries you weren't supposed to know about that go against the "official" narrative of the Marvel Age starting with the FF. It's why turning Agents of Atlas into The Asian Team is one of the stupidest, most ill-conceived moves I've ever seen. By shifting it from Truman and Eisenhower era characters to fucking Aero and Luna Snow and Amadeus Cho you've defeated the team's entire purpose and appeal.

Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)09:29:03
>>154127037 His name is Sanderson Hawkins and he went by Sandy the Golden Boy when he was a sidekick and Sandy is a girl's name so Johns and Goyer called him Sand instead

JSA.JLA outside Morrison and JLI never worked outside some Kelly or busiek issues. Morrison(and sorta tower of babel) actually fucked the JL and Avengers, every big team book needed to be like Morrison JLA, while thing like JSA or Geoff TT worked better because it wasn't as big.
Always found funny how Wildcat origin was about GL being a comic character. And now both Alan Scott and Wildcat are too linked to Gotham so this origing feel weird

Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)13:30:53
>>154127653 Alan was always in Gotham, Bill Finger was his creator. JSA headquarters were originally in Gotham too.
>>154126924 Truthfully guessing she was Asian was following a lot of context clues. You already have a black female and 2 Latina females on the team (Beth and then Kendra and Yolanda). So many white blondes with PG, Courtney and Jesse. Just had a brunette white girl with Helena Wayne. So it would be boring to make the new black haired girl just another white chick.
Would Red Canary be a good legacy to join the team in Black Canary’s place? She’s already good friends with Powergirl.
00
Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)14:02:18
>>154128791 Meh. The team is already overstuffed and they have multiple unpowered members in both Dr Midnites, both Wildcats, Huntress, etc + the unpowered people with technology that gives them at least one thing that's special like Terrific, Stargirl, Hourman, the Hawks, etc.
She'd probably just do better in a Birds of Prey book, that book needs to be more street level anyway instead of bringing in the likes of Barda or Vixen constantly.
00
Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)14:07:02
>>154128874 Yeah, but Birds of Prey already has Sin and Maps for that.
>>154120703 She was still an Atlantean unrelated to Superman at the time
00
Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)14:14:53
>>154128931 Well Sin should've been Red Canary to begin with instead of being a new OC so Red Canary can fuck off if Sin is there. Also isn't Maps like atime travel or something in that book? Nobody is going to continue that
00
Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)14:29:48
>>154128874 The team needs a matron heroine since Hippolyta is off on Mount Olympus and Shiera Hawkgirl is Kendra. Fucking DC killed off Jesse’s mother Libby Lawrence.

>>154129152 Ma Hunkel, Helena Fury, Joan Ms America, and Sandra Phantom Lady are options. Or for a wildcard option they can bring Rose Canton back, she's survived a couple crazy shit back in the golden age and the magic sap that gave her her powers can just leave her immortal or some shit. And there could be some interesting storytelling options and interactions between her and the twins.

>>154129390 Anon you and I both know Freedom Fighters aren't going to get anything ever again It's an outright miracle that the 2018 book didn't get cancelled at 6
>>154129436 I just don’t want the current members to become jobbers in the JSA comic like the previous team did. And Geoff had some new characters that could be younger members of the team: Cherry Bomb, Ladybug, Betsy Ross and Molly Pitcher.

>>154129436 On a side note, the new book straight up took a nuke to JSA canon by erasing wholesale hector and Lyta from canon. A huge thing given how Hector as Dr Fate was pretty much the main character of the 00s JSA
00
Anonymous06/09/26(Tue)16:35:37
>>154130226 They were in New History of the DC Universe at least. So they exist in canon in the past tense. Lyta was also mentioned in the Wonder Woman Absolute Power tie in.
