there is no such thing as a safe level of lead exposure
any amount will negatively effect your mental state to some degree
it is possible to work with lead safely, but if you aren't washing your hands after handling it you will absolutely have some amount of exposure

Don't buy it if you don't absolutely need it.
I deal with lead all the time at work for radiation shielding and it has a biological half life in the brain of 2-3 years, so you can absolutely notice the cognitive effects from bioaccumulation.
Also if you drop it and the edge hits you, you will get cut and bleed,happened to me last week.

Lead is a slow, compounding poison. Also it absolutely can be absorbed through the skin. Don't be dumb, buy an alternative.

Bismuth is similar to lead in it's density & malleability without being toxic.
Tin is another option for a soft metal, although not nearly as soft as lead or bismuth.
Could also just use solder.

It's metal, it doesn't just absorb into your body, not even if you rub your blood all over it and roll around in it. If you live in an old house your pipes are likely soldered with lead, if you live in an old city the water is probably delivered by lead pipes. Even the food that was sealed in lead soldered cans was safe as long as it wasn't wet and acidic. You can still buy lead all over the place for various uses.

Obviously making toys out of lead is not a good idea, some kid is going to stick it in his mouth. Get pewter, tin, zamak or whatever and cast your gay little dolls out of it.

It is dangerous, and you need to inoculate yourself against by injecting small amounts of pellets of it into your bloodsream at high velocity. Figurines used to be made of pewter which is just a basic tin alloy. It's basically very crude solder. These guys sell lead free pewter minis as merch:

Most modern solders are with lead, there's also leadless solder for water pipes/etc. but it's not more modern than today's leaded solder by any standard
