I've lost a lot of weight and want to start running like I used to, but I've moved and my new running path is kind of ridiculous. >starts 2400 feet up >gains another 400 feet over 1.5 miles to the turning point, 5% grade >half of it is paved, other half is rocky gravel I want to reach 10ks eventually, but that turning point would be nearly an 800ft gain, same 5%. I'll probably be carrying a gun for bears too, but I've got a decent setup for that. God damn.

>>77333421 You're arguing with an invisible man I guess because what I said had nothing to do with that. Carbs regulate leptin, which I'm sure you are completely unaware of and don't know what that is. You should educate yourself though if you intend on pushing a subpar ideology. At least know it's subpar first by understanding the variables involved in physiology.

Why you should not go exclusively keto even when you're insanely fat:
Yes, you will lose a bunch of weight and quickly. But you can also lose a bunch of weight and quickly while not experiencing the absolute detriment that come with doing pure keto. If you do pure keto, you are catalyzing muscle on your way down. That's part of the quick weight loss they won't tell you about. That's great that the scale is going down so quick, but why are you wanting to do something where you lose lean body mass? The lean body mass is the furnace. And not only that, when you finally get down to a normal way, you will be skinny fat with masses of looses skin. Whereas if you didn't do pure keto, you would have more muscle feeling where that skin is , and look leaner. And all it takes is doing one Carb Day each week. Keto is very effective for burning fat. But exclusively doing it without a break creates some major problems that are completely avoidable by simply doing one carb refeed day a week. If you're hitting protein and you're taking creatine, you are going to retain a sizable portion of the lean body mass that you've built underneath on all that fat . You've essentially been lifting weights every day of your life as a fat fuck. You should think of this as a bulk and cut. You're doing the cut part and you want to keep the book you have built. Not only should you be trying to lose weight, but you should be trying to retain that lean muscle mass. Those are your two goals. If you just do pure keto, you are fucking yourself on one of those goals big time.
It spikes leptin (the satiety hormone), which helps reduce hunger, prevents metabolic slowdown, and supports thyroid and testosterone levels that can drop during prolonged low-carb deficits. Psychologically, it gives a rewarding break that improves long-term adherence without kicking you out of fat-burning mode for the rest of the week. This cycling approach balances fat loss with muscle protection and sustainability.
Dr Shawn Baker has been on a zero carb diet for years and he has more muscle than you ever will.

>>77333511 Do keto 6 days a week and a carb refeed on 1 day a week. Or you will become a loose skin, skinny fat waife, eliminating all the muscle you built by being a fat ass, and burn fat slower since the lean body mass is your furnace to burning calories. All while being super hungry the entire time. These things are all avoidable by simply having one carb refeed a week.

Start fasting, I swear it makes your stomach smaller or something or fixes your hunger hormones. I ate 1k calories today and I'm not gonna eat any more and I'm fine. A month ago I was ordering fast food multiple times a day multiple times a week

The funniest shit I've seen in my life is those zero sugar added oreos. Instead of being 140 calories for 2, it's a lean mean 120 calories! Also, what kind of person actually buys protein pasta, poptarts and cheerios?

Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)20:50:22
>>77333595 High protein on keto does help protect muscle, but it’s not the full picture. Without carbs, your glycogen stores stay low, so your muscles can't perform doing daily things as well. Over time that can slow down muscle retention even if you’re eating plenty of protein. Staying very low carb long-term also tends to lower leptin, which can increase hunger and slightly drag down your metabolism and hormones so you go low t. A weekly refeed gives you most of the fat-loss benefits during the week while still letting you refill glycogen and get that recovery boost periodically.

Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)20:57:43
>>77333621 >Without carbs, your glycogen stores stay low This is not true at all. Your glycogen is filled by gluconeogenesis.
The argument in favour of carbs is that eating pure sugar in the middle of endurance exercise will refill glycogen faster.
Stop lying.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:03:42
>>77333634 Yeah, gluconeogenesis can technically make glucose from protein, but it’s slower and less efficient than just eating carbs when you’re trying to refill muscle glycogen for training. A lot of people on strict keto still feel flatter and weaker in the gym because that process can’t keep up with the demand, especially if you’re lifting heavy or doing higher volume work. That’s the practical difference most people notice.

>>77333643 if u r 500 pound keto guy, getting gains is not a big deal compared to finding an effective life style change that will combat years of trauma that formed this succubi style relationship with eating
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:14:44
>>77333643 It doesn't matter if it is slower. Glycogen stores fill to 100% regardless of whether your body is making the glucose or you are ingesting it.
>>77333688 >carb shill takes his mask off >it was moxyte lmao

00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:29:21
>>77333667 Technically you're right that glycogen can eventually fill up through gluconeogenesis if protein intake is high enough. The real issue is how fast it happens and how that affects training. Most people on strict keto still feel flatter and weaker in the gym because that process is slower, especially after hard lifting sessions. Carbs refill glycogen much quicker, which is why a lot of people notice better pumps, strength, and recovery when they add them back in even occasionally.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:34:40
>>77333697 how do you refill glycogen if you're in a calorie deficit on keto.
>>77333653 Well it's not really about getting gains. But retaining the muscle mass that you already have built through being a fat guy. You won't be able to retain as much with strict keto. But adding a carb refeed day will absolutely help you retain that lean mass.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:38:11
>>77333706 On strict keto in a calorie deficit, you don’t really refill glycogen stores the same way. Your body can make some glucose through gluconeogenesis from protein, but it’s slow and limited, so muscle glycogen stays relatively low most of the time. That’s why a lot of people feel flatter, weaker, and recover slower when they’re deep in a deficit on keto. A weekly refeed with carbs is one way to temporarily top off glycogen, improve training quality, and give hormones like leptin a boost without staying high-carb the rest of the week.

>>77333710 >>77333712 wont you have keto flu for like 4 days each week if you do that?
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:40:10
>>77333712 >>77333706 For someone who’s just trying to hold onto the muscle they already have while losing fat, that lower glycogen state can make it a little harder to fully protect lean mass over a long period, especially when you’re eating in a deficit for months. A weekly carb refeed helps by giving your body a temporary break, raising leptin, and letting your muscles refill glycogen so you’re not running completely depleted all the time.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:40:54
>>77333718 No, you don’t usually get keto flu every week if you’re already fat-adapted. Once your body is used to running on fat, dropping carbs again after a single refeed day doesn’t hit you the same way it does when you first go keto. Most people feel a little flatter or have slightly lower energy for a day or two, but it’s nowhere near the full keto flu symptoms. Staying on top of electrolytes (especially sodium and potassium) makes it even smoother.
This is a fake problem you are making up in a weight loss thread.
Filling your glycogen with carbs only has relevance to marathon athletes eating in the middle of a marathon.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:43:08
>>77333706 Triglycerides have a glucose backbone. Your glycogen is always refilled even when fasting just using stored body fat.
But this is a weight loss thread so filling your glycogen is not relevant. Nobody here is competing in endurance sports. You probably won't run a marathon and if you do you won't be competing for first place anyway.
00
Anonymous06/14/26(Sun)21:43:15
>>77333722 Glycogen does refill a bit through gluconeogenesis even when fasting, but it’s slow and doesn’t fully top off your muscles, especially in a long-term calorie deficit. For someone just trying to hold onto the muscle they already have while losing fat, staying chronically low on glycogen can make you feel flatter and recover worse over time. A single big refeed once a week gives you a quick, meaningful boost to glycogen, energy, and leptin without messing up the overall fat loss. It’s not just for marathon runners, it’s practical for regular people who want to make the cut more sustainable.
