>>109016074 There is no reason for anyone to be mean to you my friend. Xubuntu is very comfy and your desktop is clean and functional.

>>109016074 Damn that's an old PC. Respect for running Linux on that. 4 gigs of RAM should be okay, just make sure you enable zram.

>>109016123 Holy shit. I didn't even see that Sempron. Amazing that's still running. Had a very cheap Presario with a Sempron back in 04. Overheated and shut down at least once a month under heavy load, even with my thorough cleaning routine.
>>109016074 Honestly, you'll fare better with something like MX Linux. Xfce is the default, and you can easily purge systemd to go full sysvinit. You'll notice 200-300 MB RAM is freed up compared to Xubuntu, Linux Mint Xfce etc... If you're willing to go without Xfce, then a distro like AntiX will shave off another couple hundred MB RAM. Worth it IMHO. That being said, if you're comfy with Xubuntu and don't mind the overhead, no reason to fix what isn't broken for you.

>>109016115 >>109016123 >>109016223 Thanks frens, recently I was released from laptop jail after being there for almost the entirety of my adult life. Since I'm just getting started in the linux world I decided to revive this old pc I got, I didn't want to be adventurous with my main windows pc yet.
>>109016356 Buddy, tons of people use MacOS + [insert other operating system/s]. Get off your hoity-toity high horse my dude. Macs aren't even that pricey if you buy smart.
judging by orange reddit, what you do today is let claude fix issues and customize your distro for you, turning your free os into a paid subscription

>>109016610 Reasonable resource savings without any fuss: >Devuan >MX Linux >PeppermintOS
Extreme resource savings that will probably take some getting used to: >AntiX >Bodhi >Puppy >CrunchBang++
>>109016777 Recognizing, and that is the highest package count I've seen in a good while. Hope you're putting all of that software to good use.
>>109016812 That interface is the only way Windows can be tolerable in 2026.

I am a bit triggered that my computer is this bloated again. It will only be a few more days until i finally format it again. Setting up KDE is just a pain in the butt

>>109017048 It's not really a secret anymore in 2026, there's an entire forum centered around enabling classic theme on Win10 and 11

>>109017093 >Why would ANYONE use windows in 2026? Are you stupid? because I have an older legacy nvidia graphics card that has no working hardware acceleration in anything but 3D applications on linux cause software developers refuse to support nvdec

i want to add a few more dockapps but i want them to be actually useful at the same time!
Ditched GNOME for Xfce recently. I still have some minor issues that I'm still trying hammer out, but I prefer it for the most part. The only thing I miss really is being able to control my music from my panel, like I could in GNOME with the media player extension. >>109017025 >Vader Fuckin' based.

>>109017531 How's TDE on hidpi screens? Can it scale the UI or you have to decrease the resolution to not have an UI for ants?
>>109018877 it's a bash script. It calls a program to dump the at-the-moment desktop to a picture, runs a program to tile the picture on a plane in 3-space (yes I remember my high school trig) with a randomized camera angle and renders it as a picture, then passes that output to a wallpaper-setter program.
