so am I going to lose gaming performance if I switch to Linux? I have a 7800X3D and 4070. I kind of want to switch to Arch to make my own SteamOS and to use PewDiePie's Odysseus.

Is now a good time to upgrade to an rx 9070 xt? They seem to have gone done in price a ton since their launch last year.

>>109020998 The only problem is DX12 but it's nothing too crazy at this point and DX12 performance has been steadily improving last months. I expect near parity with Windows in the following months.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)06:45:58
>>109021013 I don't even know any DX12 games I play anymore. I've just been grinding Deadlock, which has Vulkan, and playing through the old Half-Life games.
>i want to run linux yeah because having to memorize a bunch of command line shit to do basic tasks instead of clicking something sure sounds fun

>>109021403 Modern DE's babysit you for the most part. The real "fun" begins when you want to set up gaming or try to make something work when the GUI sandbox fails to do the job. Or when you have a piece of software that just won't run on Linux.
>>109020998 Don't. I get it, everyone on the Internet is trying to convince people to switch to Linux and with people like PewDiePie shilling how amazing it is you're buying into it. Just don't, for all the shilling cultists do, Linux is still way more annoying to deal with compared to modern Windows. And yeah, the same people also continuously over-exaggerate how bad Win11 is as skewing the narrative is the only way they can convince people to join the Cult of Tux. The fact that just about every tech publication capitalizes on the trend of shitting on Microsoft doesn't help. It doesn't help that /g/ is thoroughly infested with these types as well.
Head to >>>/g//fwt/ and set up 11 IoT LTSC. Then run Chris Titus' WinUtil for good measure. Done, you have a nice, clean, stable OS base. Now install whatever it is that you need on top of it and enjoy a working computer.
>>109021265 >good enough for modern gaming until next gen Yes for 1080p >or prices go down lol

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)10:10:08
>>109021058 Yeah, as far as gaming goes the only reason to switch is if you're sick of microslop bullshit. But gaming wise it's almost all drawbacks compared to Windows, especially on Nvidia hardware

>>109021608 has rocm improved enough for me to consider amd cards?
00
Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)10:18:19
>>109021616 Fuckno, NVidia's Linux software is easier to deal with than AMD's garbage proprietary stack. AMD is great if you want to game with the open source drivers but it falls behind as soon as you try to do GPGPU shit.
>>109020392 They're not called Njudea here for nothing goy, lmfao

why is everyone trying to do everything with a single piece of hw? >uhm is amd rocm good for slop now? >uhm has nvidia fixed its drivers for linux desktops? just get an amd for your gaming/desktop and nvidia for slop, are you poor or what
>>109021915 As someone who used to shill for air coolers, you're living in the past, and whining about the ongoing costs of a trivially inexpensive component in your pc.
>>109021920 correct, anyone not touching their pc at all for 6 years, especially if they use it regularly, are fucking retards who should be using a console with a thermal pad instead. You should repaste every 3-4 years at least, its not hard or expensive. And cpu coolers aren't expensive either unless you want the extremely-stylish ones like a TRYX panorama.
Am I gonna notice 4ms latency on a screen if I'm not a counder-strook schizo? Dell Alienware AW2725DM

>>109021928 >unless you want the extremely-stylish ones like a TRYX panorama. my pc doesn't even have a window. best investment you can make is a pc case without a window. then you can just buy components based on their function.

>>109022044 if you want your cpu to work at optimal speeds, you will repaste every ~3 years or so. It's 20-30 minutes of your time max, and a few bucks for the paste, its not a big deal, no need to grandstand about it like you are doing right now. Pick your battles sperg.

Fat fuck no longer cares about reviewing hardware, only about making drama.
By the way, have you noticed how piss poor GN's coverage of Computex was compared to TPU where there was a whole bunch of cool products announced? He didn't even do a video on Cooler Master's booth. Every week he's getting lazier and lazier, fucking pathetic. "Tech Jesus" my ass, his ego will bury his career.

Rtx 4070 12g vs rtx 5060ti 16g which one would be more silent? Do I need to buy a three cooler version for my GPU to be silent? I should probably say "less loud", because I understand that there is no way for a GPU to be completely silent under load. I have a 3060ti from Palit and it gets loud when it's under load. I mainly play with speakers so it's noticeable.

>>109021928 >you're living in the past, and whining about the ongoing costs of a trivially inexpensive component in your pc. NTA but I really just don't like AIOs. It's probably the biggest stain in a market that celebrates modularity. Custom loops are just infinitely more appealing.
