It’s almost 2030 and still no breakthroughs for stabilizing guns on drones yet

>>65224535(OP) So what would actually happen if you fired a gun set up like in OP where the slide is attached to a fixed position and the rest of the gun is not would it recoil forward in response to the slide trying to go back?
Because it's a shit idea, drones heavy enough to carry a rifle and deal with recoil are fucking expensive and have limited flight time while carrying that weight. CCIP / CCRP bomber drones are a much better idea as the same big heavy and expensive drone doesn't need to slow down or hover to take out the same number of targets in a bombing run.

>>65224569 bombing runs are dumb for the same reason we dont do carpet bombing anymore, and tube arty is better for the exact same mission
if youre going to have a drone at all either it should guarantee a kill or be a platform for something else that does.

>>65224582 We don't do carpet bombing because guided bombs work out cheaper with the higher POK. When I say bomber drone I'm talking about unguided munitions that were in production before drones and will remain in production like 40mm grenades and 60mm mortars. The bomber plane had to stay at 30,000+ feet to avoid ground fire making dumb bombs very inaccurate, a bomber drone is still cheap enough to be making a run at 300ft as a loss to ground fire isn't the end of the world and dumb bomb accuracy from 300ft is pretty much the same as a guided bomb from 30,000.

>>65224538 Recoil will kick the whole thing rearwards, while it fails to cycle. A normal recoil spring will be way too strong for the combination of the extra drone weight on the slide and the ultimate limpwrist of a dangling frame, resulting in negligible relative movement between the slide and frame.

>>65224569 >CCIP / CCRP bomber drones are a much better idea Number of stowed kills. Engagement of moving targets. Danger close radius (supporting your own troops clearing trenches).

FPV drones don't have the payload capabilities yet to make a gun viable. At best you're going to see stuff that the Ukranians do like some kind of DIY shotgun blast charges in a lightweight tube. I think we may even see drones with anti drone lasers before we see guns, I could see some kind of scaled down laser capable of overheating exposed electronics or something being a useful dogfighter fpv, if the laser could be stabilized on its own gimbal mount and operate independently. Guess I just reinvented the WSO role but for drones.

>>65224661 That doesn't seem correct. Why couldn't you put a pistol on something like this? Even service pistols in PDW cartridges are easily inside the payload of FPVs. A loaded Five-seveN is, like, half the payload of my link. A MP9 is only 1.4kg unloaded, loaded it would be inside many FPVs payload easily before we start stripping furniture. https://defpoint.ua/en/drony-ta-zapchastyny/fpv-drony/fpv-dron-7-dyuimiv-en

>>65224669 Outside of trying to clumsily assassinate someone I don't see the use case of a pistol on a drone, its going to absolutely suck in anti air capabilities and ground strafing is also going to be difficult if you are getting shot at.

>>65224695 Useful implies viability. I'm not wrong then.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)10:31:30
>>65224718 You are wrong. You said they didn't do it because drones didn't have the payload. That's untrue, so you were wrong. Now you are inventing a new version of what you even claimed, so it seems fair to say you're a shameless liar as well.

>>65224535(OP) Considering that guns don't even kill people in wars, you'd at least want to mount a grenade launcher on your drone.
>>65224535(OP) It was tried a lot in the 2010s. The conclusion was it's a stupid idea. It's more efficient to have a relay/spotter drone plus a supply of one-way explosive FPVs.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)12:52:04
>>65224728 it is viable you just have to fly up to someones face without them noticing the buzz getting louder
or you know all those videos of the drone dropping a nade straight into a group of dudes? just shoot a gun straight down???
nta but yeah youre a fag I gotta agree

>>65224535(OP) Hey, I have that drone. Or rather, I have the one that came after it. Not sure why you'd use a picture of such an outdated drone.
>>65228907 These guys also successfully mounted 40mm grenade launcher to quadcopter drones. All these things were delivered to Turkish SOF pre-2020. Some were used during operations in Syria, Libya and Azerbaijan

Anonymous06/11/26(Thu)20:13:07
>>65228900 >>65228907 Too much recoil for such an aircraft and the gimbal doesn't seem to be able to stabilize the gun quickly enough during a burst.

>>65224535(OP) of course we can put guns on drones, just not flying ones
