i really dont see a point in those piston ars that are not ar15 compatible at least with hk416 u can drop it on an m4 lower and use ar15 charging handles etc

A lot of it has to do with modern machining. Some guns look the way they do because making them look "nicer" if you will would cost more money. The ARKA and the NARP closely resemble the metal billets they were machined out of.

I just watched that video. I'm not particularly impressed with the design at all, it sacrifices way too many positive attributes in an attempt to mimic the AR as much as humanly possible. However, I liked the bolt lug addition that helps with BHO, and the gas system was an improvement.

Yes, the law of economics. The current meta for manufacturing rifles is extruded aluminum uppers, and that's why every single "new" rifle in existence today has the exact same ugly extruded aluminum look.

I cant speak for Grayburn that the ARKA is tied up in, but the project Hunter that directly preceded it specifically asked for an AR15; so there is a strong chance that this is FN making the SCAR as close as they can to an AR without just submitting an FN15.

The beefier multi-piece gas piston is pretty cool, and the handguard lockup is ugly but functional. Buffer-tube on a bufferless design was an odd choice though. I can't imagine there are really THAT many police departments/SF groups that said no to the SCAR specifically because they couldn't put their preferred flavor of Magpul on the end.

Wanting a folding stock is the ENTIRE reason to not buy an AR in 2026. This gun is going to please nobody, because people who insist upon AR features will just buy an AR, or at a stretch a 416 or other piston derivative. FN is trying to court customers who have already tacitly rejected them.

SCARfags on suicide watch, from the looks of this thread. About fucking time FN updates the design and keep up with the times. Of course, the side charger and how the buttstock interfaces with the lower could've been left unchanged, methinks. They better offer a .308 version, and longer barrels with matching handguards.
