Are modern rifles required to be ugly by some new law or what the fuck isgoing on?

>>65225246(OP) its a very lazy design put an ar15 charging handle and forward assist lol and call it a brand new design
i really dont see a point in those piston ars that are not ar15 compatible at least with hk416 u can drop it on an m4 lower and use ar15 charging handles etc
but this is like making an hk416 compatible with scar only lmao

A lot of it has to do with modern machining. Some guns look the way they do because making them look "nicer" if you will would cost more money. The ARKA and the NARP closely resemble the metal billets they were machined out of.

>>65225246(OP) I think the ARKA looks better than the SCAR.

>>65225246(OP) >putting a fucking AR15 buffer on guns that don't need it To me that is a INSTANT "clear out your fucking desk, you have 5 minutes before we call security GET THE FUCK OUT" as a firearm engineer.

I just watched that video. I'm not particularly impressed with the design at all, it sacrifices way too many positive attributes in an attempt to mimic the AR as much as humanly possible. However, I liked the bolt lug addition that helps with BHO, and the gas system was an improvement.

>>65227053 Yeah, that blew me away. Laziest fucking thing I think I've ever seen in gun design

Anonymous06/11/26(Thu)02:55:31
>>65227053 >>65227061 It's apparently because it's what customers ask for, but it will have its own dedicated stock.

>>65225246(OP) Yes, the law of economics. The current meta for manufacturing rifles is extruded aluminum uppers, and that's why every single "new" rifle in existence today has the exact same ugly extruded aluminum look.
>>65227053 I cant speak for Grayburn that the ARKA is tied up in, but the project Hunter that directly preceded it specifically asked for an AR15; so there is a strong chance that this is FN making the SCAR as close as they can to an AR without just submitting an FN15.

>>65225246(OP) The beefier multi-piece gas piston is pretty cool, and the handguard lockup is ugly but functional. Buffer-tube on a bufferless design was an odd choice though. I can't imagine there are really THAT many police departments/SF groups that said no to the SCAR specifically because they couldn't put their preferred flavor of Magpul on the end.
>>65225246(OP) Is it possible for these types of magazines (like a glock mag) to exist for 5.56? I dont care how impractical they are i just want those to exist

Anonymous06/11/26(Thu)05:00:12
>>65227291 Wanting a folding stock is the ENTIRE reason to not buy an AR in 2026. This gun is going to please nobody, because people who insist upon AR features will just buy an AR, or at a stretch a 416 or other piston derivative. FN is trying to court customers who have already tacitly rejected them.
>>65225246(OP) >new rifle design >non ambi ejection guess ill stick with my leftoid PSA shitrod for all eternity

I hope the designer gets stung by a thousand wasps up his urethra.

>>65225246(OP) You don't understand we have to make everything look like an AR in the worst way possible as that's the only thing we can actually copy from the American military
00
Anonymous06/11/26(Thu)06:13:37
>>65227398 Normally people complain that euros copy us too much, but you're seething that they're different?
>>65227072 Yeah, and sometimes customers don't know what they need but what they want. And sometimes customers are just fucking stupid. I say fuck customers and what they think, they're wrong and with no imagination of what they could want. Be bold, and invent something so well thought out, it fucking invents your customers for you.

>>65227053 It's what the actual market wants, smart guy. Folding stocks are a Cold War paratrooper novelty that the actual users of these rifles don't particularly need or want. I don't like it either, but it is what it is.

>>65227306 This thing will probably be much better than the HK416 by the virtue of not having fucking carrier tilt.

>>65227269 It looks even cheaper and shittier than it is. You see them on a lot of tactical guns now, I think larpers just think more screws = more utilitarian, cool, and fuck you. It's a stupid gun.
SCARfags on suicide watch, from the looks of this thread. About fucking time FN updates the design and keep up with the times. Of course, the side charger and how the buttstock interfaces with the lower could've been left unchanged, methinks. They better offer a .308 version, and longer barrels with matching handguards.
