In fact, the Hightowers are very involved with arcane arts. Magic studies are not banned per se, but they're discouraged, because that's the best way to maintain their monopoly.

I think this is an overreaction, but I sort of get where you're coming from. The silver-gold hair and purple eyes, along with everything else, feels rather Mary-Sue-ish, but GRRM balances it out by introducing a strain of madness. Also, they're one of the last surviving remnants of the Empire of Fire, so of course they're a bit overpowered.

Howland Reed warged into Arthur Dayne the Sword of the Morning (who weilds the real Dawn, even though I kinda think the real Dawn was a curved blade/arakh like anon posted last thread, perhaps the Daynes have confused their history and combined the real events of Azor Ahai with the Sword of Morning that comes from the Civlisation of the Dawn.

Anyway Howland warged him and saved Neds life, Ned killed him in that moment, which would have bascially mind broken Howland since dying inside another body fucks up other wargs/greenseers.
Howland not acting ever, even to visit Ned makes me think Howlands been wed to the trees and can't move anymore, and also can't let anyone see him in that state. Being wed to the trees means he's seeing the future and so doesn't bother sending his men to fight because he knows how it all plays and he wants to save them to fight the Others and probably against Euron

I'm not worried, if he dies before finishing the final book it won't change how things currently are no matter how good or bad this one will be, it'll just be another installment in an ultimately unfinished, unsatisfying, anti-climatic story.

I'm sure George (Where's my tax polic, George? Why do griffins have four legs but dragons don't, George? How's your cholesterol, George?) has no genuine ideas beyond a vague haze but I'd like to know yours on how magic actually works in the setting.
