I don't get it, why did pre-R.E.D. Metal Hero change its target audience to little kids after B-Fighter Kabuto? That's like having the final season of SpongeBob air on Nick Jr.

>>23900241 >>23900246 They only started using on set audio when they switched to digital cameras with Shinkenger. Before then, every series needed the actors to ADR all their scenes.

Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)01:09:18
>>23900269 The audience never changed it has always been little kids iirc the change was due to BF Kabuto getting lower ratings so producer Hikasa wanted the next one to feel like an in-between of Metal Heroes and Fushigi Comedy
Starting ToQger. Wasn't super in love with the suit design in the past but seeing how they have to accommodate the color change gimmick (is that color correction or do they actually have a different one for each color of each member?) I definitely immediately like the suits more. I've spoiled myself on the mystery but hopefully it'll still be enjoyable going through. Do the robot scenes include things like the CG extending punch that the first episode had? That was neat.

>>23900320 >(is that color correction or do they actually have a different one for each color of each member?) They just created 2 versions of each suit, one for males and the other for females, and swap the numbers on the chests and helmets as they are attached to modular pads/decals.
>>23900269 B-Fighter Kabuto's toy sales crashed, thus Kabutack going in a very different direction again.
Keep in mind Metal Hero died more just due to complete lack of identity not performance.
B-Fighter Kabuto's failure led to Kabutack, Kabutack's success led to Robotack, Robotack's success led to a cooperation with Ishinomori Pro for the Robocon remake (since Robotack was partially inspired by Robocon). And then Ishinomori Pro pushed to use this timeslot for the Rider project they were trying to get going for years. This would never have happened if "Metal Hero" had actual mindshare as a brand rather than the staff mostly looking at the shows individually or in small groups.
>>23900278 Ratings were about on par. 9.0% for B-Fighter, 8.9% for Kabuto. Kabutack and Robotack's ratings were even higher though ( 9.7% and 9.6%)

>>23900345 >Keep in mind Metal Hero died more just due to complete lack of identity not performance. Now that you mention it, Project RED might feel similar to how Metal Hero didn't have actual definite identity. From Gavan Infinity (space sheriffs) to Omegahorn (kaiju tamer) and who knows for the 3rd project, the only thing that tied them together is the "mecha" as the main selling point which based on Super Sentai strategy anyway.
>>23900392 That was the whole vision statement on Project RED. Every season can basically be whatever the producers want, all that will connect them is that the main hero wears a red-focused hero suit and he has a mech of some kind.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:31:27
>>23900399 >>23900392 I thought the shows didn't need to have a mecha and the key aspect connecting the shows is the connected worldview and the protagonist having at least a red accent
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:34:52
>>23900410 I'm not saying a literal mecha because Omegahorn will have kaiju and there's one who's basically the equivalent to the main mecha in the toyline. Like maybe for the 3rd Project they'll use tanks without any humanoid mode.

Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:36:57
>>23900257 i don't follow the show: does gavan infinity have some sort of in-show final form right now?

Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:38:22
>>23900416 This is summer movie only. If he's getting some sort of upgrade, it'll most likely be during Omegahorn's run.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:38:40
>>23900414 I thought Omegahorn's whole thing is that the Kakujuu could basically turn into the main hero's mech parts, like if the Ginga Beasts were augments.
>>23900416 He recently got a final form gun in the Gavarion Express, but his suit looks the same.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)03:41:47
>>23900421 >I thought Omegahorn's whole thing is that the Kakujuu could basically turn into the main hero's mech parts, like if the Ginga Beasts were augments. I don't think the leak mentioned main hero being the "mecha" of the show, his figure will be the usual action figure. The "mecha" is the main Kakujuu where you can even put Gavarion's side mechas as interchangeable.
>>23900421 No Omegahorns Kaiju is a huge behemoth looking beast from final fantasy, he can stand upright and assume a godzilla like stance when omegahorns megaphone turns into a jet and slots into the back on the upright kaiju, The kaiju in "Fighter mode" has the same slots that the Gavarion GCR has on its fists to connect the new Kaiju auxiliaries and the previous Gavarion units.

>>23900444 I hope the kakujuu is cute like Ultraman monsters
Kinda off-topic but since it's another attempt at making a new toku after Sentai's hiatus, what did the nips think about Forticus which released yesterday?
>>23900506 I'd say Forticus is perfectly on-topic for /red/. From what I've heard it's basically like a big anniversary meta celebration movie almost like Akibaranger but not focused on cringe-humor.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)07:20:07
>>23900270 Which incidentally is why so many Sentai actors became Seiyuu's, as having to ADR literally everything made them good at dubbing
>>23900582 I feel like it's almost a bit of pure shock value that we learn Fade does what he does to help his senile grandma not go homeless. Though you can throw that backstory onto any villain to make them seem more human.
My theory on the decline of Sentai is that Rider overlapped with the concept of "gattai".
Before W, combining things was reserved for Sentai only. But since W introduced proper key items that combines with the belt, as well as forms that feel like a combined robot.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)12:56:05
>>23900694 Actual reason is because "Sentai" sounds too close to icky "Hentai", unlike how "Kamen" sounds like "Ramen" and everybody loves ramen despite them being overpriced AF.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)13:02:00
>>23900694 Anon we know the declining sales of Sentai is because of the toys, the mecha and roleplay toys aren't as good as the competition and people would buy the toys of their favorite ranger but since one ranger doesn't have as many toys as one rider they don't make enough profit. As a show the decline was due to the mixed bag that was Ninninger to Ryusoulger, Kiramager and Zenkaiger did well critically but due to how much Sentai's reputation had been tarnished at that point not enough people watched them, but from Donbrothers up to Gozyuger lots of people went back to watching Sentai again but views doesn't equal toy sales as stated on the first point.
>>23900701 I can't help but feel like the expansion of robot toys didn't help. Collectibles like Rider are way easier to monetize since they are lower cost for everyone and they are easier to store. When the big money maker toys are robots that also come with expansion items and often they have three entire separate robots for the team for the show, minor expansion module robots and then another robot for the movie, it's probably asking too much. I think that we saw during Reiwa experimentation with the exact robot models that indicate a desire to improve it for the current market but then it just hits the brick wall that is Bandai's toku robots.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)14:02:36
>>23900701 I dunno why they stopped making mechs like Onitaijin or King-Ohger that were super poseable and popular and just returned to bricks again.
>>23900734 Sentai's big fall in toy sales happened exactly when they tonned down the robots though. The full combos with like even up to 4 separate combiner robots like in Go-onger completely disappeared by the time Sentai's sales were falling.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)14:43:25
>>23900694 I mean some of that is true, it didn’t help that from like Gaim onward there would sometimes be a giant robot either from abike or henshin gimmick.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)15:08:56
>>23900694 Ironic that if not for Go-Onger's Engine Souls, they won't ever get the idea for Gaia Memories, despite Rider already did key items before like cards.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)15:10:48
>>23900742 Onitaijin was great but from business standpoint, they need something that can have interchangeable parts. King-Ohger was their attempt but I guess something wrong with the toy balance or something.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)15:11:54
>>23900742 They probably were too expensive to make and didn’t sell enough to justify making more.
>>23900516 >it's basically like a big anniversary meta celebration movie almost like Akibaranger I watched the RAW, I feel it's closer to Tokusatsu Gagaga than Akibaranger. Despite being made for celebrating TTFC's 10th anniversary, there aren't single Rider or Sentai mentioned or appeared, but we get their expy which are based on Rider/single hero, Ultraman/giant hero and Sentai/group heroes. The Sentai expy kinda have magical girl vibe tho.
Crazy how even Wingman live action shown actual past Toei toku heroes.
Kabuto Raiger is leaving Junretsu. Now Gao Black is the only OG member who's already a toku hero before the group founded.

>>23900394 The problem is that we barely got to see this guy so who cares how he lives? Same with Luminous, she hasn't shown up in a while and when she did the only valuable thing she did was stamping a paper. This format is terrible.
00
Anonymous06/08/26(Mon)22:29:17
>>23901053 I think the problem is not the format but the execution of it. The episode ends on Fade, but for most of the episode he isn't there. Luminous does next to nothing. They have to sell the train toy, but they don't even do that well. We have an extra minute and a half due to not having an OP, and that's more than enough time to nail a great episode, yet they completely waste it on fucking around.
