wish they had kept producing these, too. they were good for what they were. outdated, but also none of the problems of modern cars. they didn't even have the timing chain issues that the same V6s did in the RWD cars.

Is the V6 still as good as people say? I wanted to get one but the V8 is so cramped in there you can barely change spark plugs. The V6 should have more room, right?

They made them until 2016 as the "Impala Limited" and you can even get them with the front bench seat

Nobody says the 4.3 is good lol. The 4.3 is just a 350 with the back cylinders missing so it won't be much smaller than the V8. I've driven them with the 4.8's and those are not very enthusiastic. I wouldn't want to drive one with a V6 though I'm sure the 8 speed helps.

At least it has a use now (screen) whereas before it was actually useless. The Mercedes Sprinter has the same set up with the backup cam in the rear view mirror.

it is, but what's the point when you can get the even better v8? it's the most compact v8 there is, it only seems slightly large in the short van hood. still easy to work on compared to 99% of powertrains out there. the benefit of the v8 is also that it's not breaking a sweat under load, the v6 has to be wound out more to haul anything.

As of 2025 they offer it with their camera mirror, so the rear view mirror displays what a camera on the back of the van sees. Now even windowless vans can have rearward visibility.
