It's mostly about what engine it has. I'd say 13th gen (2017-2020, 15-16 had issues) with a 5L is solid pick because 13th gen is when they got significantly lighter from using aluminum

>>28978949(OP) Probably whatever gen had the 300 i6 even though I see maybe 5 of them a year. They got worse and worse after that. The newest gen is a good bet of you want something fast.
>>28978978 Dentside, bullnose, and bricknose were "square". The aeronose 9th gen isnt square. Also, "square bodies" are exclusively 73-87 Chevy/GMC C/K series, and 88-91 R/V series

>>28979602 Basically this anytime someone posts about the 300. Great engine if you never take the truck off the farm.
One of the best gas engines ever made out of the 3/4 super duty combined with the best suspension setup available for a factory truck at the time.
More modern raptors are more capable but none are as reliable and durable as the og.

>>28979683 There used to be this massive "6=8" crowd. Websites devoted entirely to the 300/4.9. Im sure they still exist to some degree but specific forums ive tried to find are gone.
If I bought a truck with one (again) I wouldnt pull it if it was running good. But if it died I'd pull it and drop a small block in its place (again). I'd never build one for a swap unless I was doing some quirky open hood build like a '32 rat rod or something.
Its not a "bad" engine. Its just a cheap basic bitch poverty spec motor.
>>28979783 My 5.4l one has been great. I love it. Easily the best vehicle I've ever owned.
Id definitely get the 6.2l if doing it again but for as cheap as these are now it's a no brainer

>>28979842 They honestly regressed styling wise with the 13th gen. Looks less modern imo than a 2015 imo.
Not hating it as it looks great it just doesn't feel as modern as the 15s face.

>>28978949(OP) Any of the aluminum ones I would think. People talk highly of the ones with the 6 speed over the 10th they are all pretty robust. Both 5.0 and 3.5 are pretty good, just depends on what you want. Stock i think I’d rather have the 3.5

11th gen cuz they did interesting thing with it like the lil doors on the regular cabs, the option to configure in super cab 5.5 bed, seatbelts in the seats (which make this era seat a great swap into other projects) and they had the GOATed 4.6 2v which go 400-500k miles. and they didnt have the big ugly headlights like the newer ones

>>28978949(OP) Shame everything from the last 29 years is garbage. Fucking hate their SOHC motors for being retardedly hard to work on vs an LS for zero benefit, then everything 04+ is just pigfat and massive. The 5.0 is fine I guess but I hate the body size and proportions so I guess I'll be an OBS boomer. If I could have a jellybean with a pushrod v8 that would be acceptable I guess but then I might as well just buy a gmt800.
