what things do you hate to see in racing vidya? what would you like to see?

I hate rubberbanding, should be a performance point system of some kind to keep cars and drivers/CPUs relatively even. Also more police chases.

0 damage Which happens a lot nowadays cuz carmakers HATE seeing their precious POS cheap EVs get damaged. I say that's an opportunity to show off your crumple zones
It's like they don't even fucking try. Stupid bitch audio engineers need to get sold a rope to hang from if they're so lazy that they can't even be fucking bothered to source people's cars for accurate engine/exhaust audio.
Also games where you can't adjust your camera angle or height in the driver of First Person mode. I DO NOT WANT TO BE YOUR MANLET ASS WHEN IM DRIVING. GOO GOO GA GA LOOKIN NIGGA, I AM A TREE NOT A STUMP. LET ME SEE OVER THE FUCKING DASH AS A TALL MAN.
>>28979511(OP) way too many cars, devs clearly go for quantity over quality and leads to them being lazy in other areas that matter hugely like >>28979554 said. i dont need dozen 911's with fully modeled interiors that all use the same vaccuum cleaner sound ran through a pitch changer a dozen times, for fucks sake.

Dialogue. Been playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2025 and in between races you get bombarded with cringey dialogue and are introduced to loads of faceless characters that you never asked to meet. Players want to race and collect cars, not immerse themselves in a high school-tier drama.

>>28979605 this I hate the new Forza horizon; it's a good game but the way it has to constantly explain itself to you with childish and trite voice acting and pulling you out of the action to go interact with a menu ticks me off.
like I was in freedom just mucking about and I found a guy with a cool car in a cool spot doing some drifting, I come flying up and just as we get into a cool tandem the game fucking locks all my controls, forces me to stop, ya is me into a menu to show me it put a fucking region stamp on my motherfucking progression card with a while ass talking spiel about it. first off I don't care at all second off who asked and third fuck off!!!
games that feel like the developers did not play them. they might be technically good games but you get to playing them and there is a soullessness or prefabricated or recycled feel to it. that shit pisses me off.

>>28979511(OP) I DONT like them all just being realistic. They need some style to make them obviously different. I DONT like stories. Grand turismo cold hard racing justification is good enough Mostly that. I want to want the new forza but I have the crew motorfest and forza just does offer anything the crew doesn't already have. Yea I get Japan, but the racing is the same. Make it like dramatically different.

>>28979511(OP) >hate to see Character selection for the driver. Clothing selection for the driver. Pronoun selection for the driver. Car customization pricing that's outlandishly outside of reality in order to force balance (a set of four slicks isnt $20,000, polyphony digital). Where the computer cars can push you around but you can't push them back. The game artificially creating a come from behind victory. any time the cars don't play by the same physics/rules (if there is a lore reason for this, fine but it has to make sense in context), any time dialogue has to be sanitized, any time a game assumes you will care about the characters without any buildup
i dont like that realistic driving sims are always paired to real world tracks/locations. I want to play dirt rally feeling game but in a fantasy setting like motorstorm. whooptie fucking doo a real race track with no elevation change, no banked curves and no attacking helicopter gunships, whooptie doo asshole. give me arcade tracks with realistic driving.

I want a game that's like Forza Horizon but it's shitboxes >>28979533 It used to be because damage models were super primitive if they even existed because the hardware couldn't handle it, not for any outside interference reason.
>>28979959 >the clips i see of it where cars are just leaping skyscraper high across a field and not pancaking is gay you're gay for being an underage faggot
just because a game doesn't let you suck your own dick doesn't mean the game is bad or unrealistic.
>but i can do it in real life that means the fun fuck about racecar game needs to be gory and bloody and hyper realistic!!!11111
>>28980080 fun fact: modern science still has no clue how tires actually work and it is now believed that quantum mechanics are at play meaning it is impossible to simulate an accurate tire under the standard model of particle physics at all and it isn't worth trying that hard.
00
Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)06:46:32
>>28980086 >Quantum mechanics are at play reddit alert. and yet we built the sr71 without being able to fully model real world fluid dynamics. I didn't ask for a perfect one, I asked for one that is even remotely similar to real life. which formula 1 has.
>>28980067 Lol no, Burnout has existed since the PS2 days. The whole thing about carmakers not wanting their cars wrecked started around the time beamng was revealed and the dev said there wouldn't be licensed cars because carmakers get touchy about damage simulation and that's why we don't have soft body physics in racing games. Coincidentally around that era Criterion released NFS Most Wanted which was basically Burnout Paradise: This Time With Licensed Cars, and damage modeling was significantly downgraded for seemingly no reason. All this was before the Model 3 was even announced.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)07:09:00
>>28980095 >reddit alert. no it's pretty well established motorsports knowledge that the molecular interface between rubber and asphalt, especially when rubber starts sublimating into tire smoke, is a mathematical unknown and any attempts at simulation are wrong at best

>>28980128 burnout has very well made canned animations and highly detailed models that make it look like there is some kind of soft body physics simulation going on but there actually isn't
besides which we had beamng with multiplayer in 1999. you fucking burnout smash-em-up racing game kids are like a decade and a half late to the party just as you were back then
I've been trying to think of what I hate in racing games but I can't think of anything so I'll instead post a list of games that I think are pretty much perfect, as in, I want more racing games like these. Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition NFS Underground 2 NFS Most Wanted GT Legends Gran Turismo 1 through 4 Ridge Racer Type 4 GTI Club Test Drive Unlimited Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 Wreckfest TOCA World Touring Cars Honorable mentions to Assetto Corsa with mods, BeamNG, and RaceRoom for being the only modern sim that actually includes classic DTM and supertourers

>>28980447 Midnight Club 2 handled it well. You get characters and dialogue but it doesn't feel like it was written by weebs or fatties

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)18:48:42
>>28980457 The characters were so cheesy it was good, very little dialog, just a 10 sec clip of each racer to set the mood. >Sweet seduction in a magazine >Endless pleasure in a limousine >In the back shakes a tambourine >Nicotine from a silver screen What a fun game that was. The level of precision required in the latter half is nuts.
I wish the video games would render the gas chamber exhaust coming out of the gas chambers' exhaust pipe as thick black smoke to teach the kids that the carbon atoms in the gas chambers' fuel tank still fill the world as if the world were a cup.
It would just be a filter to teach that the carbon atoms don't disappear just because the flame burns clean.
maybe it would be cool if the sky got progressively worse as you go on playing the game! Like have the game take place in different time periods in the character's life and show how bad the sky gets many years later when you jump cut. that would be awesome!
I don't like the way you can run the gas chamber infinitely in grand theft auto games which trains the kids to run the gas chambers infinitely in real life too. It would be cool if you had to fill up the gas chambers' fuel tank every once in a while to show that the gas is not an infinite resource too..... I have not looked at grand theft auto 6 but I bet its a terrible terrible gas chamber training simulator.
san andreas had really bad draw distance which is a cool realistic depiction of what the nazi carbon atoms look like against the mountains in the distance.
>>28979511(OP) I don't like points based car performance classes The old school GranTurismo with a bunch of different class restrictions based on the car's specs are more fun
