>>28980162(OP) Combustion engines run on a duopoly of fuels -- gasoline or diesel. Yes, there are some natural gas engines floating around, but that wasn't really embraced. Seems mostly limited to semi trucks or some fleet situations.
And that duopoly of fuels can only be produced from a single feed stock -- crude oil.
Compare to electricity, which can be generated from fossil fuels, hydro, solar, wind, nuclear, etc. It makes zero sense to play the oil companies' game anymore. They have shown themselves to be bad actors -- the GM EV1 ordeal, PNGV program, light trucks CAFE loophole.
Beyond whether people who can should be switching to electric, a better question is whether any legacy automaker trying to transition to EVs should have their products shunned for all the bullshit they engaged with.
The war in Iran has unironically soured everyone on petrol cars. Yeah ok fueling is fast but EVs are gaining advantage by just about every other aspect. Comfort? EVs. Speed? EVs. Reliability? EVs. Price? Starting to skew to EVs favor outside of shitbox territory.
Every year that passes, EV advantage grows ever stronger. A few years from now, only die hards and jeets will care for gas cars.

>>28980512 Also, the advantage of EV is even more apparent if you run your own solar panels and can basically operate a car completely independent from the grid. It's funny how EVs often get accused of being reliant on government energy but it's really the opposite. EVs are far more independent.
>>28980162(OP) Because other CEO's with the exception of nissan and maybe mazda, are soulless machines that only want line-go-up. They want fast profits from cheap EV's that explode after 2 years and don't give a shit about the company they work for since they can just use stock performance to justify golden parachutes. These other companies will be giga-fucked in the next 5 years when china or Toyota finally makes a good solid state battery and completly crushes the cheap EV market.
>>28980166 Oh wow, a single repair bill shows all EVs are expensive to repair and maintain.

>>28980162(OP) i would estimate at least 80% of the EV market is government regulation oriented, so it really only takes China or the EU deciding they feel like it to turn the tides. EU could half the price of gasoline tomorrow just by changing how they tax it. Therefore, I don't think this talk about "we're in the swan song of the ICE" is reasonable

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)19:51:19
>>28980572 I.o.W. betting on EV's forever dominance is like betting on 100 years of total libtard dominance. I don't think we're looking forward to another two decades of libtards dominating Europe, let alone enough time to fully kill ICE.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)19:57:24
>>28980572 Why would China or the EU -- both highly industrialized areas with relatively little domestic hydrocarbon resources -- move away from electrification? It doesn't make any logical sense. Stop and think for 2 seconds. >>28980574 Why is a consumer product a political identifier for non-elites? For people at the top, sure -- they have rentier income and potential stranded assets to fret over.
But for regular people? No organic reason to be animated by it at all. The reduced maintenance, home charging, greater variety of potential input sources for electricity, all fall in favor of electric, if anything. Of course when you understand that through viral marketers and botting, vested interests with rentier income and potential stranded assets can start a propaganda campaign to take advantage of the less intelligent among us, then it makes it a little clearer.

>>28980572 >EU could half the price of gasoline tomorrow just by changing how they tax it. They're more likely to do the opposite. EU should no longer bind itself to energy sources outside its control. Both the Ukraine and Iran wars made that a bitter reminder. EU needs to hasten its electrification dramatically. They're way too slow. Still too reliant on Russian gas and ME oil. EU has too little ambition for independence.

>>28980182 >>28980195 It's weird seeing the japanese be in a similar position the big three american car manufacturers were in the 1970s. refusing to adapt and assuming what sold for decades before would still sell. they were kinda right for awhile. even in the 1970s, the best selling cars were still american boats. but refusing to adapt eventually caught up to them. now Japan is in a similar position. they're trying to ignore EVs while the rest of the world isn't and they're going to eventually start bleeding marketshare. even more so if Europe starts heavily taxing ICE forcing people into EVs. they'll abandon japanese cars entirely because they have no viable EV options.
GM knows EV adoption is on the horizon, so they spent a shit ton of money making BEV platforms. some of which Honda is using to make their own EVs just to have in their back pocket for when shit hits the fan. Toyota is resisting this and it'll eventually bite them in the ass. VW thought they were too big to fail with their diesel shit until dieselgate happened and destroyed the entire diesel empire they had been shilling for more than half a century. it'll happen to Toyota, too. china will flood all of these developing countries with EVs and there will be a mass exodus from ICE to EV vehicles as countries give incentives for renewable energy. It may seem implausible now, but give it a decade or two. toyota will start eating shit hard.
Just like the big three american car companies. Just like the european car companies are now. It's Japan's turn to fail and rebuild.
