>the 2000s are in the middle of the "retro craze" and tons of brands are bringing back once beloved models that haven't been produced in awhile or strayed to far from their roots like the mustang. Ford introduced the 2005 mustang and it's an instant hit. Chrysler introduces the PT Cruiser and Prowler which are also hits >GM realizes they haven't used the "Impala SS" nameplate since the B-body cars, so might as well have a crack at that >but the Impala is FWD >shove a de-stroked LS sideways in there anyway >same 4 speed transmission only meant to handle the 200 HP V6s now has a 300 HP V8 that makes even more torque than the tranny was ever intended to handle >knew it would be a ticking time bomb from the start >ship the cars out anyway >mfw These are still really cool and it was the last era of coke left in GM before the bankruptcy. completely irresponsible and no other company would've dreamed of doing something this profoundly retarded yet GM just needed to bring the Impala SS nameplate back and this is how they did it. by lazily shoving a V8 in a FWD economy sedan without changing the transmission at all. Imagine if Toyota shoved a V8 out of a tundra into a FWD camry. I'm glad this car existed and I unironically miss 2000s GM.
>>28981617 mid engine corvette is pretty sensible and well executed. It's the most extreme car GM has ever made, but they at least weren't doing coke when they made it. everything was planned out from the very start unlike some of the other cars they produced where they knew they were against a wall but said "eh, we'll figure that out later".

>>28981620 >"eh, we'll figure that out later". Funny you mention that. Its been standard GM operating procedure for 70 years.

>>28981615 Not really that crazy when they'd been shoving transverse Northstars into FF cars for years. Ford was doing the same with Continentals and the Taurus.

>>28981590(OP) Are 1000+ HP corvettes no good enough for you? Or 600+ horsepower sedans?

>>28981615 I get the hyperbole but it's not the same transmission. Naturally aspirated V6 cars got the 4T65, while cars with the V8 and the 3800 Supercharged got the upgraded 4T65-HD.
