Hey all. Are decorative pond turtles like red ears, yellow bellies, yellow cheeks etc. worth eating? They're invasive where I live (as I imagine they are in lots of places) and I've heard turtle is good eats. (Already looked up how to dispatch/clean, simpler than I imagined)
Question is, are these species in particular any good? Anyone have experience with harvesting this kind of turtle? Is the amount of meat worth the hassle, and how's the taste?
Sorry if this is the wrong board, didn't seem right to post about trapping and eating on /an/

>>2871404(OP) you can eat them. wont be as good as snappers or soft shell but its food. they are a pain in the ass to clean unless you are okay just gutting and boiling. also make sure you check fish and game regs for methods and limits. in my state there is a daily limit of 1 for turtles that arent snappers

no they have virtually no harvestable meat and it tastes like shit. terrapins in general arent very good for eating

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)17:40:04
Why not just kill them and sell the shells outside your local gem and mineral show like a normal person?

>>2871511 Throughout history, sea turtles and giant tortoises have been widely celebrated as a culinary delicacy. Explorers, pirates, and sailors famously hunted them because their meat was highly versatile, and the distinct parts were said to taste like a rich mix of veal, beef, chicken, and decadent seafood.

>>2871588 No sea turtles and tortoises are easy to catch and easy to keep on a boat. You can just load up a bunch of turtles off the Galapagos and have meat the whole time. Sailors ate a lot of salt cod too does that mean it tastes good?
