/r9k/ — What's the main reason you don't believe in the Christian Go

There's no tangible proof that the Christian God is the correct one. I've even had profound religious experiences where I met and communicated with God. There was nothing Christian about it. Jesus wasn't there. I remember thinking, wow, there's no Jesus stuff here at all.

Even without that experience, there's no reason to believe in the Christian God over the Muslim God. There is no proof for either except muh Scripture. Which proves absolutely nothing.

There is an abundance of proof. People communicate with Him on a regular basis, probably not unlike in a way you are experiencing, but they also get healed from deadly incurable conditions. That all happens in contemporary times if you don't trust the gospels, although IMO there is no reason for that. On top of everything, He also sometimes shows himself physsically in consecrated hosts as actual blood and flesh transformed from bread that He instructed us to eat.

You could probably nitpick all of that and find some way where some of this proof could have been falsified, but it's a really, really, really long shot. The main reason for people to not believe is that they don't want to.

I don't understand why protestants are so salty about such things. I was initially raised catholic, my parents grew away from it over time prioritizing their vices (drinking for my father, being a glutton for my mother). I drifted away from it over this period and by adulthood I questioned the importance of the pope in regards to the faith I was born with, as a result of the variety of beliefs each pope would have differing from the previous one. It feels similar to placing your faith in an election, given they can shape the direction of the catholic church so you can get one man who believes homosexuality is a sin, and the next that it is okay, and vice versa.

My personal belief is that if there was a god they wouldn't change their beliefs every 10 to 20 years like when a new pope is chosen, so it feels like a fake religion to me now. This is not due to the topic of homosexuality, as that's only one example, but the change in what the head of the faith believes personally and how it can influence the people around him. I don't know if I believe in god at this point, I think I would need something to restore that connection for me, but my skepticism regarding my original faith would likely prevent me from becoming a catholic again.

I grew up catholic in a religious community, what put me off from religion was seeing how the faithful acted towards one another and the church. The biggest piece of shit people I met were always very religious, I don't want anything to do with them.
