I like Nova Cats and Spirit Cats but Clanners are so mean :(

Huge missed opportunity that the rakshasa wasn't nicknamed the sadcat.

How much of 'everything is lostech and what barely functions now is held together by ductape and prayer, unable yo properly repair and maintain in the late SW' got retconned? Think I had read about natural diamond price got skyrocketyed because diamond was needed for mech armor but artificial diamond making got losteched
>>98189125 Pretty much all of it. Under the original fluff, the idea that you could actually get 4 mechs together to go fight 4 other mechs is laughable.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)22:03:45
>>98189125 It's pretty much only a factor for 3rd Succession War era, and even then it's exaggerated. You can keep basic equipment running reasonably well, but a cored mech is only worth the scrap and anything with lostech is only going to be that way for a dozen deployments under ideal circumstances.

Does anyone have a copy of Mechwarrior's Guide to the Clans? It doesn't even seem to exist anywhere as a scan for legitimate purchase, and hardly anywhere for sketch ass purchase.

How is it even determined who fields what in this setting? I've been reading some of the materials and they seem to usually be pretty vague on the users of a machine unless its really only for one or two factions, but there's also a whole big concrete list per faction online

>>98189125 >got retconned Mostly that a bunch of machines that went extinct in the 2900's were actually actively being made and/or supported with parts by factories.
Also, a lot of knowledge lost from data cores getting destroyed or dying to the point actual paper backups were needed to found the NAIS was suddenly not anymore.
>>98189151 Under the original fluff, everyone was scavengers but the standard planetary invasion still involved a full regiment of machines.
Of course it's not comprehensive, if your dudes worked for or fought against the Davions for example there's no reason they couldn't use Davion "exclusive" mechs despite being Mercs of Cappies. Everyone looted whatever they could find.

>>98189193 >how hard it is to find This thread is pretty much the best digital archive of all Battletech books on the net. We have nearly everything. I'm looking at my own copy of your book in .pdf and I downloaded it in 2011. That's not even how long we've been archiving things.

>>98189207 MUL mostly only lists things that are made in that state, actively supported by the regular logistics chain in that state, or have shown up in novels used by characters from that state. If your quartermaster can't get spare parts for it using a standardized form, then it's not going to be on the MUL. Usually.
>>98189247 Well yeah, otherwise it would just be a list of all units period by era. Do you want a detailed order of battle of every single command in the setting at every single point of every single year?
00
Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)22:35:20
>>98189208 Cool, I had a look through all the links attached to the thread that I could find, and all the related materials in the sharethread, could you point me to that one? I must have missed it somewhere.

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)22:36:28
>>98189207 That site was pretty much what prompted my question yeah, I want to know why certain units are listed under certain factions on there, or is it just that they were mentioned as using them in one line once?

Anonymous06/10/26(Wed)22:36:49
>>98189183 A combination of the MUL and research. For an extreme example of why you need both, take the Rampage. On the MUL, every single variant is extinct after the fall of the Star League. But the original publication where the Rampage was first mentioned involves one of the periphery powers (without their own MUL entry) pulling a bunch of them out of a cache and using them. Putting a Rampage in their force is the most fluff accurate use of the design since Amaris was hanged, but it's not MUL compliant. The more research you do, the more you understand who uses what.

>>98189315 They were mentioned using it somewhere, usually. But MUL is itself a canon source, if the people who maintain it add a unit somewhere, that's canon now. There are even a handful of units that literally only exist on the MUL with no known fluff outside of their designation and what faction(s) it lists for them.
>>98184518 If you compare their roster versus everyone else they get the absolute scraps till 3039. There are a few good designs but most of it is best described as mook choices. The fact they do so well with them regardless is one of the reasons why we love the Dracs. >>98189125 Recent stuff has made it that even lostech is no longer that much of lostech as there are some forces that are fielding Star League era spec designs during the late Succession Wars albeit it is extremely limited. Frankly we are at the point the retcons are getting retcons.
>>98189417 Its actually the godfather of the Griffin mafia.

>>98189484 Nah. If it was it would not have the rear lasers, would be a 3/5/3 assault so that iflt could match its giant ppc gun rifle with a FAT TOOB lrm pack.
I'm now imagining if a clantech production line beemer that's clanxlfe for 4/6/4 or 5/8/5 is even possible... with endo maybe and FF so it can hit cerppc and cslrm pack to go with maybe some back up clan medpulse? Say like two on the left arm. Gotta case II that ammo too. And have at least 90% armour coverage.
But I think 85 t needs like a 50000 rated engine to go 5/8.? So boooo.

>>98189511 He has become such a fatty that he has lost the ability to use jump jets. Now he sits around going on about how he used to be a contender while younger fitter Griffins do all the work. >>98189540 Partial Wing or Improved JJ plus TSM can get it to 5/8/5 using IS tech.
What's a mech that you're happy to be piloting regardless of the situation? For me, it's a Griffin 2N. It's not standout at any job, but there's never a time where I'm disappointed to have one.
>>98189829 Griffin. 5/8/5 is damn hard to pass up. And the capacity to exterminate pretty much anything 6/9/x that can go faster than you is not to be sniffed at. Plus being able to keep throwing ppc blasts downrange and lrm splats at bigger things that can never close the distance to you in order to bring THEIR heavier firepower to bear...
Nope. Give me that griffin. Medium supremacy. Griffin supremacy.
Suppose an enemy mech gets immediately behind one of yours. During your attack phase, is it legal to >Torso twist >Use side arc from arm weapon to target the backstabber ?
Because I just did that in a beginner game and I'm not sure if I cheated. I blew that Wasp's head clean off lmao
>>98190525 If you don't have an arm weapon to use in the shooting phase you can also backhand them if you torso twisted. If you have an arm without lower arm actuators (like a Rifleman)you can also flip your arms and blast him. The Legend Killer special.
00
Anonymous06/11/26(Thu)04:35:57
>>98190457 Yes it is. Of course, only one arm can shoot depending on the direction you chose to twist.
