got a kitty almost two weeks ago. kinda forgot how little respect they can have for personal space, had to build a door to the shop to keep him out so I can get back to modeling.
>>11789515 Lame, mine sniffs glue with me (and is in love with the airbrush for some reason)

>>11789958 you have to let your cats smell whatever you're doing, it makes them feel involved.
>>11789958 Mine is terribly offended by the smell of acrylic paints and tries to knock them off He is kind of a dumbass and takes another sniff to be offended again

>>11789958 I dont think you understand how little chill the kitty has. If he sat and observed it would be fine, but he's climbing my shoulder and licking my bald spot
what do you guys think of fictional paintjobs? I just got the IJN Mutsuki and Hiei and I'm considering painting them after the Japanese Coast Guard. white hull and green deck combo looks nice, but it might not work on a battleship...
Made this test of most of the Vallejo metal color range if anyone finds it useful. They're all painted on top of model air black which is matt so I assume there's more shine to gain from using a glossy color. This is all indoor lighting under LEDs so results may vary and they're just point and shoots with a phone camera.
>>11790123 Literally do what you want with model kits. That's the beauty of them. You don't have to paint everything light ghost grey and wank over accuracy if you wanna make a coast guard one do that and have fun with it. What's the point of spending all this time on making something you don't actually want to make...?
Ninja engine is in the frame. Breddy damn happy with the frame colour.

>>11790359 It's all included! Two diameters of tube, screws, screwdriver. Even a small piece of mesh. >>11790401 I find them a lot more enjoyable than car kits, depending on manufacturer of course. Tamiya bikes are excellent no matter the age of the mold. Racing bikes with lots of decals are a universal bastard though, same as cars.
>>11789249(OP) it's been awhile, I did a thing for the group build but the picture I used was kinda not great. I have a better pic but still wanted to use my previous submission as well. it's the IJA tiger; I submitted a collage before. anyway here is the better picture. >>11789405 >>11789407 >>11789411 he cute
>>11789249(OP) >>11790664 also I haven't built any armor lately, been way too distracted with maschinen krieger. I built my first diorama and posted it on /m/ awhile back. not sure if anons in this bread would be ok with ma.k.

I would like for it to be one of yours, so feel free to share, if you think this is a good idea.

guys, I messed up. used nail polish to strip acrylic paint since it was alcohol-based. said no acetone, too. but it made my beautiful model turn sticky and not-smooth. please help

>>11791006 It's all over anon. Start over. What level of retard did you get on to think nail polish remover was correct for non enamel paint anyway?
I’ve got a polar lights batmobile based off the 60s batman show batmobile. It is advertised as snap fit. I just realized that I’ve never applied decals. Ever. So I remember decal adhesive and other such solutions from tamiya but I also remember a tutorial about applying decals without such products. I think.
Are the products relating to decal application worth it for convenience if they are convenient?
I’m fairly new to scale model stuff.

Anonymous05/19/26(Tue)13:01:36
>>11791032 The decal products definitely make the difference, especially when it comes to applying decals to non-flat surfaces Just make sure to cut up the decals before soaking them and not dunk the entire sheet in water
00
Anonymous05/19/26(Tue)13:06:49
>>11791035 Yeah I’ve got a hobby knife for the job. What decal adhesives and related products for decal application are best and nontoxic if possible?
On a slightly unrelated note. What are the best acrylic paint products for adding things like dirt and grime and rust etc. effects to models? I try to avoid nontoxic stuff as much as I can.
00
Anonymous05/19/26(Tue)13:32:43
>>11791041 Decal solutions aren't toxic or have any kind of noxious smell. I'm pretty sure they're just like various dilutions of vinegar. They work best over a glossy surface.
00
Anonymous05/19/26(Tue)13:37:21
>>11791032 if they're decent ones and they're going on a simple flat or curved surface, you should be ok with water
00
Anonymous05/19/26(Tue)13:47:26
>>11791064 Also this yeah. You only need to get autistic about decals if they're going over raised or sunk detail like rivets, panel lines that kind of thing. A simple decal on a flat surface will work just fine with water.

>>11790031 This is why I haven't wanted to get another car, in addition to the no space for a litter box besides the bathroom Too afraid they would knock shit over and break something, which would just make me - avoidably and therefore, somewhat in unreasonably - angry

>>11791060 >>11791064 >>11791075 Thanks bros! I’m thinking that I’ll play it safe with solutions instead of trying to wing it instead with water. My local game store sells Ak interactive. If they have decal assisting products are they going to be good quality? If not then how are tamiya’s stuff? Do they live up to Japanese high quality sayings said by weebs?
I normally post in /tg/ in the /WIP/ section, but I reckon the people in this thread have more knowledge and experience about the topic.
Are etching tools like pic related usable for 28mm 1/56(?) scale miniatures, infantry and cavalry to be more specific? Can I press pic related to masking tape to leave a permanent pattern?
To elaborate, I've used tamiya elastic masking tape and leatherwork punches to create extra armour plates on my miniatures, such as in pic related. But I wonder if it is possible to create lamellar or scale patterns on these strips.
>>11791330 I'm not speaking from experience, but my other experience tells me that surely you'd want to use that brass photo etch as a stencil and then make the thickness difference happen by adding eg. primer? See this example I stole online where adding uneven layers of primer by masking off the panel lines is used to make a stressed skin/uneven thickness effect to the end result. It's a >leddit post but he explains that he masked off every panel line (thats where I see your stencil come in) and sprayed primer on top to make these uneven thicknesses, then sanded randomly to even out the effect a bit
Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid that technique is not applicable here. I would like to make armour plates like pic related. From my experience I can't get thin enough pieces from green stuff and the masking tape+hole punch method I've used is more applicable for single plates like rondels etc.

>>11791342 Maybe there's some ways to burnish the tape into small engraved items you might find on a flea market or a second hand store? I'm thinking old brass petroleum lamps or something? I think that would last better than that stencil which I think might come apart
>>11789249(OP) >>11791432 >here's your new revell kit bro I'll take it over yet another F-14 that everyone was expecting. About time we got an actually decent kit of the first gen harriers (kinetic is shit, airfix is shit, hasegawa is old, italeri/esci lmao) even though its in a scale only retired boomers care about. They're going to be posting weekly updates, with full process being documented for public viewing on youtube.
>the two greens are already too close together on the real vehicle >paint my vehicle with the recommended colors >Gunze H303 and H309 >even closer together >will be indistinguishable after washes and weathering Wat do? Just accept it?
Could I separate the two greens with oil-dot filters, with the H303 getting more lighter dots (more white, yellow, light blue), and the H309 getting more darker dots (more burnt umber, maybe even black)? Or should I just go over H309 with it mixed with some very dark color?
Here's what it looks like now. The sand/brown is kinda far off from the photos, but Trumpeter's recommended color was even farther off. Maybe I should have used XF-59 Desert Yellow or something.

>>11791557 It's definitely xf-59, maybe with a couple of drops of flat flesh, it's more ochre and it's slightly lighter than the shede in the RL picture But I don't see an issue with the greens,
