>>221089686 Having 12 openly have to tell himself in front of Clara >I'm not your boyfriend Probably didn't help either. It broke the illusion for chicks who saw the Doc as their boyfriend
>>221089771 >>221089793 >12 declares he's not Clara's boyfriiend >Call's her boyfriend who is 11 >11 asks Clara to take care of her not boyfriend 12, putting her in the position of his carer, she cares so he doesn't have to >Not boyfriend 12 proceeds to beef all season with Clara's new boyfriend Danny. It's almost like he was set up to turn off a female audience.

Redditors who’ve spent the last three months convincing themselves that the Christmas special had already been filmed in secret have now convinced themselves that the show will be back on air by 2028.
>>221082006 The difference between now and the last 'Wilderness years' is that there's basically no established incumbent Doctor anymore. McCoy and McGann had at least one on-screen showcase of their incarnations to form an attachment to from audiences and potential writers, and base expanded universe/fanfiction media around, whereas Piper's Doctor is a gimmick borne out of shock value with no laid groundwork or fanfare and leaves too much room for interpretation.

>>221089914 Their only option at this point is to pivot to Jo Martin. She's at least got material both on screen and in the EU already they can work with.

>>221089859 And then making the Doctor a woman turned off both the male and female audience because they couldn’t do their preferred self-insert
>>221089936 You gotta remember when Russell brought this show back Rose was the audience surrogate and then RTD went on to write about how the 1000 year old alien fell in love with a 20 year old slag from London and was emotionally distraught to the point he'd burn a sun just to see her. Doomsday cemented that the Doctor can be any girl who wants to self insert's boyfriend and they can either have fun adventures with a magical boyfriend who can take them anywhere, solve all their problems and love their boring selves, or have all that but with a tragic ending.
Matt Smith then became the incarnation that objectively fucks. Amy wanting to fuck him, River marrying him, handful of side characters or throw away references to such like Marilyn Monroe, or deliberateness with Tasha Lem. Series 8 Capaldi was like bucket of water thrown on them.

>>221089671 Unironically, casting an older gray haired man was more controversial than a woman or a black
Russell t Davies I say this to you because you obviously don't know. Dr Who was more than a show, many of us got bullied for loving it you know. Many of us who didn't fit in..no we were not gay..we were not in wrong bodies, but we were shy, lonely, abused ..on the outside of everything..sad. but we were included there...accepted Every age, race, class, creed, outlook..every human being was loved by Dr Who that was the point. It wasn't a little sexuality and gender club with racism sprinkled over it.
you took something precious as the true meaning of 'inclusive' something rare..truly rare and you made it ugly and broken and false.. you excluded those of us who came to it for shelter as kids
that's unforgivable
This world is better than sex and gender and race..this is humanities world put the flags down...look at that lonely old person..that awkward young person and bring them a hero
you took him from us all

>>221089914 Reiterating that they need to do the James Bond thing and set up a new Doctor souley for video games. It'd be a good stop gap, if TV is off the table for the forseeable future. They could make a telltale style adventure game, or an Alan Wake 2 style walk-and-talk puzzle/action deally with multiple characters. It could work really well in the right hands.

>>221090042 >Eccleston is an obvious replacement for the father she lost >Tennant comes along and now they're implied shagging RTD is a weird fucker, when you scratch beneath the surface a little bit.
Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways was like Shakespeare compared to The Reality War, despite all the same flaws in his writing being present (albeit more subtlety) 20 years earlier. Eccleston’s charisma also carried a lot of the weaker stories. Gatwa just wasn’t as strong an actor.

>>221089914 I will add to this anon. I just do not see there going to be either the same interest in or creative of Wilderness 2.0. When it ended in 1989 there was still a sizeable fanbase there, whereas the fanbase now has been decimated and is actively hostile to the last several years of the show. Nor are you going to get the same wild west of licensing and new creative talent that the Wilderness Years had - it is just going to me Big Finish that has ran out of steam and spread itself too thin, and whatever 'correct' way to write Doctor Who that the BBC may fart out that is the sort of shit as now that nobody wants.

fair enough lad.
dunno what lasses get out of that, but on a story level, surely they could just tell a good tale? get that pathos from the everyday human characters being human, don't make them special snowflakes.
>>221089748 I haven't been watching the new stuff since 12th left. Slowly been working my way around Classic Doctor serials. I am only checking out the general given I read the news.

>>221090221 Which is why if we're if we're getting another wilderness era, we pretty much need a new Doctor solely for the wilderness era.
Again, do the James Bond video game thing.Treat it as a new dark urban sci-fi property that anyone can get into(Like Alan Wake). Not necessarily something "for the fans". Don't have any Daleks show up. Don't get into the weeds with lore. I think there's a chance there. Although the question is who would make it.

>>221090492 I'd "reboot" it in the Scream of the Shalka sense. Just a non-specific Doctor who could go anywhere. People get way too caught up on lore. it doesn't actually matter.
Kino idea: do the playable teaser idea. You're playing as a new companion character. Maybe you're a detective investigating something. You have no idea it's a teaser for a DW game, and it culminates with you finding the Tardis.

>>221090557 I'm completely right. It was incredibly silly how we got to Series 9, and then suddenly he was wearing t-shirts and sunglasses, and playing the guitar. C'mon. What are we doing here? They did the "Poochie needs to be louder, meaner, and have access to a time machine" bit for real.
