never understood this

if the Director controlled every bit of information in Trumans city, why not make up a world where there is no other countries? just an island in an infinate ocean. this would get rid of any ideas of planes and travel or exploration

The audience has to relate as it's in their real life world at the time, will get less audience if they make the tv show a sci-fi setting. duh.
