You are always fighting about save states, well I am going to tell you the truth. What I am about to tell you is not an opinion, it is objectively fact. Some of you can't handle the truth, but here it goes:
You can use save states anytime you want if it makes you happy. You can justify the use of save states any way you want. You can say "I have more fun this way" or "I don't have the time", etc.
BUT DO NOT LIE TO YOURSELF.
The reason why so many people refuse to use them is not due to some purist reason or challenge. The truth is that a lot of games were designed around the use of save points. I am not here to convince you that I know what the "devs intended", but it is undeniable that save points were often deliberately placed. While it is true that save points were a limitation of the technology at the time, games incorporated these limitations. The reason there is a save point after a tough boss battle is because you could finally breathe a sigh of relief after beating the boss. The reason a certain dungeon was tougher than the others? The developers purposely didn't include a save point in it, even though all the other dungeons did. When you use a save state in an area that never had that option, it is quite literally a cheat code and can absolutely change the way the game feels and break the difficulty. Even using a save state so you can resume later is still really close to the fine line. You should only use a save state in an area where the game lets you save, and at that point you might as well just use the save point the game offers you, since it allows you to experience the save screen, save icons, etc.
If you use save states, you didn't experience the game the way it was meant to be experienced. You literally (probably) cheated, and therefore, YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME. This is not an opinion. It is literally a fact. But some of you can't handle the truth. Let the autistic screeching commence!
Thanks for reading my blog and attending my TED Talk.

Devs are retarded. I don't care what they intended. I know better.
>>12626930(OP) When you use save states you create a new game. It's a romhack at that point. Romhacks are fine for practicing but you didnt beat the game. You only beat the romhack you made.
>play Tomb Raider on PS1 >use save states >you didn't beat the game Ok, true. >play Tomb Raider on PC >save anywhere >you beat the game Make it make sense.
The same game can have different rulesets. Have you ever played Uno? There are like 12 different rules sets, but if you're starting a game with ruleset#3 and then decide mid-way then actually now it's going to be ruleset#7 because it suits you, then you're a cheating faggot.
In the case of Tomb Raider the saving rule applies because computers were for responsible adults and also used for work so you should be able to come in and out at any time.
You should also be able to save and quit quickly if your boss enters your office.

If you used save states, guides or rewind, you didn't beat the game. Not only you cheated the game, but also yourself. You brag about your "achievements" to others, yet deep down you know that it was all fake. You didn't experience anything, the challenge, the frustration, the overcoming, improving your skills. You just took a glimpse of what the game has to offer, the same level as "beating a game watching someone else beat it on YouTube". Even a crown made with fake gold, still shines from far away. You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't learn. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.

>>12627143 This is obviously still cheating, albeit of a lesser order. Dudes here are just abysmally stupid about this issue. It's generally fine to cheat, and it's INSANE to claim that cheating isn't cheating and actually believe it. This should be obvious to everyone.

>>12626930(OP) did not read that shit but i've been having more fun with games since i disabled savestates and fastforward and all of that other shit like for example i beat FF3 recently, the last stretch is basically 2 dungeons and 6 bosses in a row and takes more than an hour, with no save points or heals. i died to the final boss twice. it was frustrating, i wasted a lot of time, but holy shit was it a memorable experience, beating it felt GOOD if i used fastforward and savestates it would've been just another dungeon and i probably wouldnt remember shit about it
anyone can experience a game however they want, like put in gameshark codes if that makes you have fun, good.
but for you to claim that you "beat" the game you need to do it like it was intended to, beating a hard game is a very satisfying closure to your struggle.
also note that putting some effort into it makes you a better player like it trains your focus and reflexes and abilities, and then you can beat other hard games from the experience gather.
if you only play with cheats and your gameplay is super low effort >whatever I'm just doing whatever I feel without worrying or learning because I can rewind LOL you are robbing yourself from the opportunity to get good
