It's because weebs have to be different. At the very least they could also call the NES and SNES by their Japanese names since they actually sound cool.

You already know the answer, even though the TurboGrafx got an official release outside Japan, most non-Japanese players weren't familiar with the system at all. People mostly learned about it during the early days of emulation, when players referred to it by its original name.

Anyway, is it "N-ES" and "S-N-ES", or "Nezz" and Snezz" like the "Loch Ness" pronunciation? Is this a regional thing (North America or Europe / Oceania) thing?
