I will never understand why people are butthurt about this. It's believable that a nobody rapidly gaining influence is bound to be noticed by the elites and either recruited or destroyed.

I think it's less weird than Raven, some literal nobody with no personality, becoming the main villain in NotR.

Being able to kill really strong NPCs with super strong gear and lots of experience by yourself is incredibly immersion breaking.

Yes, there is a fair bit of replayability
>Can join the Guard as a faction, they give you the option to specialize as either a crossbowman(unlike NoTR here it is very viable option) or 2 handed melee combatant
>Trade guild(Araxos), bowman or 1 handed melee
each specialization comes with their own quests too
or if you feel like ditching your faction, later on you can also go independent with unique armor and quests (plural it depends on the faction you ditched)
you also have to make a choice between your professions

NTA but I think the crossbow was designed as a supplement for a melee-focused character, while the master sword was a supplement for an archer, so neither of them was supposed to be the core of one's build.

Notr removed that idea completely, there just isn't enough LPs to have a decent handling on crossbow
in Archolos you can be okay swordsman and a master crossbowman, hell you can you can even wield high dex weapons and still train str and handling if you want to roleplay as duelist/spearman
NoTR's balance also destroyed paladin magic (it sucks dicks in the expansion)

That part is true, the magic becomes more of a flavor rather than a tool.

My Archolos build was bullshit. Had high STR and DEX, used one-handed DEX melee weapons, I had a crossbow (I didn't use it much, admittedly), and maxed out spell circles, although my mana pool was rather humble. It wasn't a problem, though, because I used the mana regen set.

I just played through Gothic 1. It was nauseating dogshit. The entire game had me running joyless errands. Nice jogging simulator for homosexuals. The end game swarmed me with hordes of enemies until it was unceremoniously over. My only other Gothic experience was 3 in 2006 which was garbage. I'm not holding my breath for 2. If 2 games so far were bad I'm not expecting a masterpiece from the most hyped of them.

G1 is like a boobjob simulator. It still somewhat appeals to blowjob enjoyers but barely appeals to those who don't like foreplay much.

You are right. About 65% of the game is just foreplay, 10% sex, and 25% just wanting to get it over with because you've had enough.
This game does appeal to people who unironically enjoy the realistic approach to a fantasy realm i.e. you'd get rekt most of the time unless you tread lightly, make friends or learn 2 cheese.
Getting to the point where you're no longer afraid of the woods, ruins and all the fags you put up with is very cathartic tho C4 onward is very barebones so I can see why people quit.

I did learn ledge archery to snipe most critters on the map, transforming into a raptor works too but you need to turn back human before you lvl up else you lose the HP boost

And I'm ok with it. They wanted to make one of the old camp guys the bad guy, raven is an obvious choice. Gomez and Bartholo have dialogue where they start fights, they should be canonically dead. The rest are fair game, but Raven is more intelligent than Scar and Arto and not sympathetic like Thorus.

Can someone convince me to give Gothic and Risen a chance? It feels like I may like them if I invest a lot of time into them, but I'm too burnt out from other games to commit.

Honestly, based on this thread and the reviews I see, there's no way my casual gamer brain can stomach any of this: jank, controls, leveling system/learning points (barf!), and of course being treated like shit/fighting like shit the first half of the game until you can actually fight.... these games aren't for someone like me, are they?

If you're still mentally flexible enough to learn a new combat system, try gothic 2 with a good mod (try archolos by all means). They fix the levelling system and make it fun. Gothic2 combat system is unusual, but interesting, tactical and skill-based.
Gothic2 and archolos have a great atmosphere and interesting (if small) world, actually quite comparable to skyrim IMO.

Don't know what you mean. Literally the first 2 levels worth of points any normal player spends is on getting the mid tier combat stance, which is perfectly usable. Fighting like a dork for the first two hours is part of the experience.

I've just finished replaying G3 last week and the game at least runs smoothly now, you need community patch, parallel universe patch, update pack, DXVK and 4gb patch. With all of these it's rock solid 60fps and load times are reasonable.
The game's still kinda shit but for some reason I keep returning to it.
