I'm 100 hours into Kingmaker and I think i'm in chapter 2 or 3 and I everything about the game is really quite good, there's just one thing thats kind of ruining the entire experience and is tempting me to drop the game and Owlcat as a whole forever.
Does the filler combat ever let up? Maybe it's because i'm playing turn based with a controller(pc) but it feels like i'm fucking drowning in combat all the fucking time. I'm playing on challenging and it kind of feels fucking ridiculous at this point and the pacing is completely fucked by virtue of constant never ending battle at all fucking times.
Are all the Owlcat games like this? I already bought all of them because I heard they were on par with Larian. It doesnt even feel like there's a "little" too much combat it feels like the combat to story ratio is completely fucked 4x in the wrong direction and its blowing my mind and driving me a little crazy.
Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

>>3968568(OP) Rogue Trader is ok in this regard with more bespoke encounters, if still having rather simplistic encounter design, the PF games are both complete, bloated dogshit.
>>3968568(OP) a)Not all combats need to be done in turn based b)Even in turn based, precise control helps deal with fights pretty fast past early chapter 1. c)Whatever the fuck you are doing (mouthing every word, clicking on every pixel, drawing everything on graph paper), it extends your playtime 3 times the average. Yes, the games have filler combat, pacing issues etc, but eve a first time playthrough slowly can be FINISHED in 100 ours.

I admit i'm probably a little slower than the average gamer and it takes me some time to get through it, but i'm playing on 2x speed and it still feels like its not enough.
As for "these games" Larian or even old Bioware doesnt have these problems at all. Bg1, 2, 3 all had great combat pacing compared to Kingmaker. Theres really no excuse for Owlcat. I'm slow but i'm not retarded. This game is overstuffed to an insane extent.

>>3968596 The game is overstuffed and weirdly paced (though mostly for the latter half), but if you are playing with 2x speed for animations and you are 100 hours in and barely 50% done, you are fucking slow to an outlier extent. Kingmaker has issues, and whatever the fuck you are doing exacerbates them to the nth degree. Better drop it and Owlcat, this is not a game you should push through till you are retired on this pace

>>3968568(OP) If you're talking about the random encounters while traveling on the overland map, that's a Stealth skill issue. During camping, you select a party member who is doing the Stealth check to conceal your camp. That slot is also used to determine whether you evade random encounters. You obviously want to put a party member with a very high Stealth skill check in that slot. If you succeed on the Stealth checks, then you can choose to just evade random encounters and you won't get ambushed while you're camping. All of this is explained in-game, too, by the way.
>Have you... have you tried talking to anyone? Have you tried reading the dialogues? Have you tried managing your kingdom or traveling between areas to talk to the artisans or do any quests? Yes I've done all those things, yes i'm very through with side content and dialogue and yes I do have an underlying neurological abnormality
>The combat doesnt take longer than a minute
This is just not my experience at all. Again maybe its because i'm playing turn based with a controller but.... in the womb of Lamashtu cave in the "season of bloom" quest I just did like 4 encounters back to back of 6-10 mystical giant spiders each enchanted with blur. I guess I i'm not running blind fight so fuck me I guess? Each encounter was probably 5 -7 mins. And thats just the first flour of the cave. I could speed it up by playing braindead and just spam rests and rations but it kind of takes the fun out of the game not playing to my utmost every battle. Like my life is genuinely on the line.
>A controller? For a PC game? An RPG that specifically assumes you're playing it on a PC??? Why would you fucking do that? Like... WHY???
This game is ported to console anon, it has proper controller UI configuration. The controller actually feels pretty smooth and I doubt its the issue here, though maybe. I can snap through the abilities and menus pretty fast. Controller has always been more instinctive to me then M+KB.
>>3968676 Damn near everything I told you is true. My palm is open and i'm not holding anything back. The only mistakes or "misinformation" is that its probably more like 90 hours instead of 100. (5 hrs first character, 5 hours idle time if I had to guess )
00
Anonymous04/20/26(Mon)14:01:07
>>3968678 No thats not the issue I rarely get into overland battles. Its like every cave or area I go to the process is the exact same.
>go to interesting new area >explore >walk 5 feet >combat encounter >walk 5 more feet >combat encounter
Basically run this loop for 35-40 mins through an area with 1 maybe* 2 instances of
>unique npc dialogue with something interesting happening
That usually lasts 15- 25 seconds as the dialogue is pretty short in this game.
Im actually being pretty fucking generous. I'm pretty sure I waded through damn near 1 1/2 to 2 hours of trolls get to the tartuk and the troll chief boss at the end of that troll lair level. All for for maybe 25 seconds of diologue at the end (and i'm a slow reader, like fucking extremely slow). It was fucking ridicously disporporportionate in terms of build up and pay off.

>>3968893 True Seeing negates Blur and Displacement. At that character level, you should be casting Communal True Seeing from a Cleric or Wizard. Blur / Displacement / Mirror Image is a crucial defensive layer for enemies in the game, and Fey-associated creatures in particular. By that time in the game, you've seen these defenses frequently and you've seen what it means. You have had 100 hours in which to consider what feats you're buying. You've had plenty of time, warning and information to consider picking up Blind Fight feats. And to learn about See Invisibility and True Seeing spells. That's all entirely on YOU and YOUR decisions. Those spider encounters in that part of the plot should not take more than a single round. By that character level, trash fights don't generally require all of your characters to even take actions. Even the uber bosses don't last more than three rounds. So, apparently, you have somehow spent 100 hours doing.... what, exactly???? Because it sure was not fucking playing the game. It's just not fucking possible to spend that much time in the game and somehow not know how literally basic shit works. Blur is a level 2 spell, anon.

Its like yea I can cast true seeing with my wizard but my understanding that only they* will be able to see through blur not the other characters that really do heavy damage. Its like yea I'm gonna cast true seeing with the that betacuck cleric and hes gonna dps smoke those spiders down like hes a fucking pally wally like what the fuck are you even saying anon? Thats ridiculous at that point I may as well just roll the D5 and blitz crank through blur until I hack them down with my damage dealers and leave my cleric and wizard to haste/slow add damage roll buffs.
How the fuck would you even use true seeing and smoke the enemies down in a single round? That makes no fucking sense. That would require two rounds minimum even by your own example...?

>>3969062 True Seeing can be cast on other characters. See Invisibility is self-only. Communal See Invisibility and Communal True Seeing cast the spell on all allies in the radius. Anyone who has the buff running on them gains the benefits. I don't know how you don't understand this, it's pretty simple and obvious stuff. The spells themselves are very very very clear about all of this in great detail. It's literally right there in the game. Read stuff, dude. >that betacuck cleric Spend less time on terminally-online YouTuber bullshit jargon. Spend more time actually fucking reading shit. You sound like a particularly retarded ten year old. And you probably are one. >How the fuck would you even use true seeing and smoke the enemies down in a single round? ... Anon. Cast True Seeing on your warriors. Put it on Ekun and stand back to avoid the splatter. While they have True Seeing running, Blur and Displacement and Mirror Image do not apply against their attacks. Ekun with True Seeing will land every attack as long as the die doesn't land on a natural 1 which is only a 5% chance on each roll. How is this so complicated for you? How have you spent 100 hours in the game and you don't know this shit? At this point you need to actually convince us that you have played the game.
