It's the idea with "fancy food".
You don't need big heaping helpings to get the most for your buck, you can afford fancy pretentious stuff where appearance as an almost art piece matters more.
There's also the element of multi-course meals with a lot of small plates so you can enjoy a wider variety of dishes.

I'm guessing you haven't seen the ridiculousness of "tablecloth" desserts.

nta but: Oreos, melted butter for the base.
Cream cheese & sugar, vanilla paste, heavy cream. They added crushed oreos again for the pink layer. Oreo dusting on top.
The second is just a generic roll cake, any recipe works the same, I can link one I've tried if you want. The third is self explanatory. Box mix with eggs and white chocolate chips.

I like how crunchy it is even if it's like the lowest grade pseudo chocolate and not exactly stellar-quality ice cream, not terrible just nothing special. Nice mix of textures. The fucking shitty plastic tray it comes on means you have to eitherjust stop slicing at the lip, slice through the lip with the knife, or play everyone's favourite game of "If I lift this shit is the fucking thing going to fall out and on the floor?" again.

I realise this is quite a lot of talking about fucking icecream on a mongolian gif & webm board but it's hardly like this is ever going to come up again.
