Fermi calculations show earth is only planet with a technological civilization in the galaxy, and the light speed barrier prevents any life from leaving the galaxy.

There might be life but its microorganisms, small multicellular, plants and animals, but planets w life that can escape gravity wells are infintesimally rare.

The near earth asteroids have enough resources for trillions of humans to live in absolute luxury. The solar insolation in near earth is sufficient that solar powered mining ships could build halo ring cities faster than humans could reproduce to fill them. The only bottleneck is price per kg to low earth orbit, which could drop to air freight costs by 2030s-2040s.
