This Umarex lever gun has worked pretty well for me, though I'd never take it to a game, I have a revolver that uses shells, I might consider taking that to a game though, since it shoots pretty straight.

Any recommendations for an entry-level M4 solely for LARPslop? I barely play airsoft but I really wanted to kit out an M4 solely for the aesthetics.

I already have a higher-end AK for performance, so I'm not worried about having a "pea shooter" considering how extensive (and expensive) the aftermarket is for the M4 platform.

Pic related, I got it then shortly after LCT announced their HK33, full steel and all that. The Classic Army shoots really well, but holy shit its got the worst plastic furniture I've ever seen, super creaky and flexible, it feels terrible in the hands. I replaced the furniture with LCT stuff so it's better now, but I may get rid and just get the new VFC gbb, can't really justify having an aeg and gbb of the same gun.

For fuck sakes STOP recommending Specna to beginners. The motor is literally held in place by thin plastic tension tabs inside the grip. No solid retention plate. Just springy plastic pushing outward and hoping material fatigue never happens. That plastic is under constant stress, and it loses tension. And when it does, your motor height shifts. The entire drivetrain depends on consistent engagement of teeth. If it so much as shifts a single CM you get noise and eventually stripped gears.


If you are new, buy something mechanically sane with nicer metal externals for the same or cheaper. CYMA. E&C.

I will concede it may have made sense 6-7 years ago when it was the go to option for a gun that came with a MOSFET pre installed.

Do you see the clear plastic shrink wrap tubing covering the wires in the stock in the final image of the product posting on evike? If you crumple it they can disconnect.
Not sure if that model has the aforementioned issue with cap on bottom of grip being held in by thin plastic tabs, But please FFS Do not buy from Specna.
The products they sell are not manufactured in house by them meaning QC is all over the place.

See where the clear tubing where the mosfet connects to the rest of wiring? It is crimped on with shitty non shrink tubing intended to insulate wire from water, not a proper solder contact. It can and will fuck up.

honestly i could write multiple 2000 char posts about getting into airsoft and all the pitfalls but i think to sum up

1) if you're mainly interested in playing tag with BBs then yeah, best thing to do is to show up local fields in gym clothes and use a rental to figure out if you like the hobby. some fields and event runners are just ass so don't be discouraged if you don't like playing airsoft on the first field you try it on. it's worth driving an extra 30 minutes to get to an actually good game field.

if you are mainly interested in airsoft for the replica or gear autism, then i would not even bother with the gym clothes + rental stage. in such case, get a gun you really think seems cool and show up to the field with that. or just stay home. if you just enjoy plinking with a gas blowback rifle in your back yard then do that. i honestly think the actual game part of airsoft is often its weak link. for me, i like the guns and dressup but actually playing airsoft is a crapshoot. 50% of the time it's mid, 25% of the time it's bad and 25% of the time it's great.

2) don't waste your money on crap. this is a very wide topic that you frankly can't get good information on online. honestly generally i would asking here before making any major purchase. or if you have big boy money to spend on this hobby then you can just throw money at random shit and see how it goes

i've never heard of this before except in an earlier airsoft thread here. don't specnas come in a variety of pistol grips and OEMs too? the ONE series is E&C rebrands afaik. i mean even if this applied to every specna pistol grip somehow, you could still probably swap it out if it becomes an issue, because it is an M4 platform after all.

i don't doubt the ones you had your hands on sucked but it would be strange to me if it applied to the brand in general. like funny enough the worst built gun i have (F2000) and the best built gun i have (M14 EBR) are both made by G&G

I did exactly this. As soon as I discovered airsoft I knew it was the hobby for me and what gun and kit I wanted so I bought it all before my frist game. Still own the gun 14 years later.
The only difference now from when I started is that everyone runs 11.1v mosfets or HPA at the field. I started to feel disadvantaged running my 7.2v batteries.

Ive never noticed a problem with this (HPA and mosfet vs stock), it might be because i got lucky and got a midas touched gun from CYMA (It was one of their cheapass plastic underfolder 47s) that shot straight to a good 40-60m somehow, and 50/50 odds at 70m (picrel 45m), and now i still get okay shots from their full metal aks74u

That would have to either be the GHK AKM or WE Thompson. I despise GHK since buying that piece of dogshit. Everyone at the time was glazing that gay company and I got baited in. This trash only somewhat worked when I was testing it at home. Whenever I took it outside it instantly kept shitting itself. I am still omega mad because it was really expensive compared to everything else I could've gotten then.
With the WE I knew what I was getting myself into but it was still worse than I anticipated. Gun kept literally eating itself from the inside and all five mags I had for the gun started leaking for no reason at all. Performance was subpar also but I could've dealt with that if it wasn't for the gun actively killing itself and the mags.

TM MWS. Not that it was bad per se but I was disappointed when I opened the box. I had many airsoft replicas before it so I was expecting something special but when I opened the box and first saw it I thought I got sent a Specna Arms or something. It had so few steel externals and felt cheap. Glad I had a lot of external parts for it so I never fielded it stock but ended up selling it 2 years later. It never lived up to the hype for me. I really hated the hop on it. It was like one click was underhopping and the next one was way overhopping. I had to try a lot of different hop nubs and rubbers to make it shoot well.
Not the worst replica I had by far but still it pops to my head whenever somebody asks what my biggest buyer's remorse was

the cybergun F2000s (both OEMs) are quite available here in europe at least. getting the handguard is an issue though. i think they're losing 150€ if you even find one. the M-trigger guys make a 3d printed one at least though

i'd never put an angled foregrip on mine though. they feel super uncomfortable except for c-clamping, which you can't do with the f2000 since it's a chonker

Price, I can get an entry-level AEG for $200-300CAD and the bare essentials to game it properly for another $50-100CAD while no matter what, getting into GBBRs would take something like $700-800CAD minimum and be a bit more finicky even if they're ultimately cooler and more fun guns to handle

NBBs are definitely niche (especially in NA, where the selection of ones that aren't abysmal dogshit designed to only handle like 500 rounds is extremely slim) but I personally like the Mk23-style ones that let you cock the hammer for a more precise single shot, kinda like a mag-fed DA/SA revolver (also obviously lets you slap a foam-stuffed can on the end for peak silence)

The MK23 NBBs are beast! I've had the Y&P, TM and Novritsch MK23s and they all had insane range, accuracy and stealth. I kinda want to get another one, however the M9's size is just perfect for me. The MK23 is a bit much for my thin smol hands.

I like GBBs but recognize the appeal of NBBs from a gameplay perspective
